To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Tigers allowed Fox Chapel an early 4-1 lead but rallied to defeat the Foxes, 10-7, at the Senior High field on Thursday afternoon.  Senior DH Sean Oglesby had a double and single while senior 2B Jeff Dassner and senior right fielder Dan Wentz added a pair of hits each to pace NA.  Sophomore Tanner Wilt went five strong innings in relief to earn the victory.

Fox Chapel picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.  After a walk to leadoff hitter Andrew Harner, shortstop Josh Barbara sacrificed him to second.  after a walkto RF Charles Williams, center fielder Jayce Duquette hit into a force play.  Duquette then stole second and when the throw went into center field, Harner scored.  The Tigers came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.  With two outs, Oglesby lined a double down the right field line.  A wild pitch moved Oglesby to third.  After walks to junior 3B Justin Brozick and senior LF Jackson Boyd, Oglesby came home on a wild pitch.   After one inning, the game was tied at 1-1.

The Foxes put three on the board in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead.  Back to back doubles by LF Lou Curcio and 3B John Corcoran plated one run.  After NA starter Max Mellott struck out the next two batters, Harner singled home a run and Barbara followed with an RBI double.  Wilt then came in to pitch for the Tigers and got the Foxes without allowing further damage.

In the bottom of the third, the Tigers took the lead for good.  Senior CF Jon Wilson led off with a bunt single and raced to second when the throw to first was wild.  Oglesby followed with an RBI single to right field to cut the lead to 4-2.  With one out, Boyd singled to center and senior 1B Brad Comport drew a walk to load the bases.  Wentz singled sharply to right field to drive in Oglesby.  With two outs, senior pinch hitter Kurt Devlin drove a two-run single up the middle to give NA a 5-4 lead.  Wentz then scored on a wild pitch to make it a 6-4 Tiger advantage after three innings.

Wilt struck out the side in the fourth although he allowed a harmless triple to Harner.  The Tigers added two more runs in the bottom of the inning.  After Dassner singled and stole second, Wilson reached on an error by the Foxes who could not handle Wilson's infield pop fly.  With one out, Brozick singled to left field scoring both Dassner and Wilson to give NA an 8-4 lead.  Garrett Marosky came in to pitch for the Foxes and got a double play to end the inning.  After four innings, the Tigers led by an 8-4 count.

Fox Chapel picked up a run in the top of the fifth when Williams singled, went to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a ground out to cut the lead to 8-5.  NA answered in the bottom of the inning with two more runs.  After senior shortstop Nick Butterini walked, senior catcher Matt Ludwig reached on an error.  Dasner followed with a base hit up the middle.  With one out, the Foxes did not handle an infield fly by Oglesby and pinch runner Zach Stein was able to score and make it a 10-5 game.  Marosky finally got the third out on a fly out.

Neither team scored in the sixth inning, but the Foxes rallied in the top of the seventh.  With out out, Barbara singled to left field.  Williams followed with an infield single.  After a passed ball moved Barbara to third, Duquette grounded out with Barbara scoring.  After a walk to pinch hitter Alex Haak, Curcio singled scoring Williams to cut the lead to 10-7.  Senior Max Benner came in to relieve Wilt and got Corcoran to strike out to end the game.

The Tigers got offensive support from a number of players as they recorded ten hits on the afternoon.  Wilt did a great job before tiring in the seventh inning as he held the Foxes to just one hit over four innings before the seventh.  For his efforts at the plate, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Sean Oglesby the Player of the Game.

With the win, NA improved their section record to 4-0, the overall mark to 8-1 on the season.  The Tigers will travel to Seneca Valley this afternoon where they will battle the Raiders with first place at stake.  The MSA Sports Network will broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 3:45 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.

TIGERS RALLY TO DOWN BUTLER, 6-3

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning, the Tigers rallied for a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh innings on their way to a 6-3 victory over Butler at Pullman Park on Monday afternoon.  Senior 1B Brad Comport had a triple and single to pace a 12-hit NA attack.  Junior right hander Ryan Oglesby held the Tornado to five hits in six innings to earn the victory.

It looked like the Tigers would be off and running in the top of the first.  After one out, senior CF Jon Wilson singled to center field and stole second.  Senior DH Sean Oglesby dropped a single into center field with Wilson holding second.  Butler pitcher Joey Marak got the next two outs on fly balls, however, to stop the NA threat.  Butler did score a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.  After a long double down the right field line by Cody Herald to start the inning, Ryan Oglesby got the next two batters on a ground out and a strike out.  First baseman John Crummy reached on an infield single to score Herald with the game's first run.  Ryan Fennell followed with a base hit to right on a hit and run.  Tanner Master plated Crummy on an infield single to deep short.  After one inning, the Tornado had a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers answered in the top of the second.  With one out, senior RF Dan Wentz beat out an infield single.  Senior SS Nick Butterini lined a shot into right center field for a base hit and both runners advanced when the ball was misplayed by the Butler center fielder.  With two outs, senior 2B Jeff Dassner singled into left center field to score both runs with Dassner reaching second on the throw to the plate.  After an inning and a half, the game was tied at 2-2.

Both pitchers settled down over the next two innings.  In the bottom of the fourth, Butler took the lead.  After a walk to Fennell and a sacrifice bunt, Butler shortstop Evan Oswald lined a shot that got over the head of Wentz in right field.  Fennell scored but the relay from Wentz to Dassner to junior 3B Justin Brozick nailed Oswald at third.  Oglesby got the final out on a ground ball to short, but Butler led, 3-2, after four innings.

In the top of the fifth, the Tigers came back with a pair of runs to take the lead.  With one out, Wilson beat out a bunt single.  After Sean Oglesby drew a walk, it appeared that Brozick was hit by a pitch.  The home plate umpire ruled that Brozick did not try to get out of the way of the pitch and he was returned to the plate to hit.  With two strikes, Brozick came through with a base hit to center field to score Wilson with the tying run.  Senior LF Jackson Boyd followed with a line single to left field that scored Oglesby with the go ahead run.  NA took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth.

Oglesby continued to pitch well after the tough first inning and got the side in order in the fifth and sixth.  In the top of the seventh, the Tigers added a pair of insurance runs.  With one out, Sean Oglesby singled to left field.  After Brozick walked, Boyd hit into a force play.  With Butler relief pitcher Zac Sessa on the mound, Boyd got picked off first and began running to second.  After a short chase, Oglesby broke for the plate and the throw was wild allowing the run to score and Boyd to race all the way to third.  Comport then drilled a long triple to the wall in right center field to score Boyd and give the Tigers a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

Senior right hander Greg Piehler came in to pitch for NA.  With one out, Oswald reached on an infield single, but Piehler got the next two outs on a strike out and a ground ball back to the mound.  The Tigers went home with a hard earned 6-3 section victory.

It was a good overall team effort.  Wilson, Sean Oglesby, Brozick and Comport all added two hits to the NA total.  Defensively, the Tigers played well behind the pitching of Oglesby and Piehler.  For his efforts at the plate, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Brad Comport as the Player of the Game.

With the win, the NA section record improved to 3-0, the overall mark to 7-1.  The Tigers will host Fox Chapel tomorrow afternoon at the Senior High field as section play continues.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 3:45 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.

TIGERS KNOCK OFF UNBEATEN PINE-RICHLAND, 4-1

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Tigers defeated Pine-Richland, 4-1, in a key early season section contest at the Senior High field on Thursday afternoon.  Senior right hander Greg Piehler held the Rams to just four hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory.  Senior 1B Brad Comport had a pair of hits and an RBI, and senior CF Jon Wilson added two singles, two stolen bases and a run scored for the winning Tigers.

The Rams got off to a good start with a run in the top of the first inning.  Leadoff hit Mitch Elliott led off with an infield single and then stole second.  A ground out moved Elliott to third and a base hit to center field by T.J. Kuban gave P-R a 1-0 lead after one-half inning.  NA answered in the bottom of the first.  With one out, Wilson was hit by a pitch and quickly stole second.  A ground out moved Wilson to third where he scored on a passed ball.  The teams were tied at 1-1 after one inning.

In the bottom of the second, the Tigers took the lead for good.  Senior LF Jackson Boyd led off with a walk and followed with a steal of second base.  Comport then lined a single to center field to score Boyd with the go ahead run.  NA led, 2-1, after two innings of play.  The Tigers added another run in the bottom of the third.  Senior 2B Jeff Dassner led off with a walk and Wilson followed with a line drive single to left field.  With one out, Dassner stole third and scored on a long foul fly ball off the bat of junior 3B Justin Brozick.  After three innings, NA had built a 3-1 advantage.

In the top of the fourth after Piehler had retired eight in a row, Kuban drilled a double down the left field line.  After Piehler got a pop fly to second for the second out, Ryan Nussbaum drew a walk.  With two outs, Brad Lalli grounded to Dassner to retire the side.  In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers scored again.  Comport led off with a base hit and senior RF Dan Wentz followed with a bunt attempt.  P-R pitcher Matt Berezo made a diving attempt to catch the ball but failed with the ball rolling into foul territory as Wentz reached on the bunt single.  Senior SS Nick Butterini followed with a sacrifice bunt that moved both runners up a base.  Junior pinch hitter Eric Harbison then sent a long sacrifice fly ball to center field to score Comport and make it a 4-1 game.  After Dassner walked, Wilson looped a single into short left field and Dassner was thrown out attempting to advance to third.  The home plate umpire ruled that Wentz did not cross home plate before the tag was made at third base keeping the score at 4-1 after four innings.

After neither team threatened in the fifth, Kuban singled with one out in the sixth.  NA Coach Andy Maddix went to the bullpen and brought in junior right hander Ryan Oglesby.  Ram batter Matt Yoklic hit a two-hopper out near second base that Butterini scooped up, tagged the base and threw to first for an inning ending double play.  Oglesby retired the side in order in the top of the seventh striking out the final two batters to secure the victory.

It was a good team effort by the Tigers who played flawless defense and took advantage of their opportunities to plate four runs.  For his efforts on the mound, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Greg Piehler as the Player of the Game.

With the win, NA improved to 2-0 in section, 6-1 overall.  The loss was the first for Pine-Richland after eight straight wins.  NA will travel to Butler on Monday afternoon for another important section contest.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 3:45 pm.  Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
