Leyna Rumpler Becomes NA’s First WPIAL Girls Wrestling Champion

North Allegheny hosted the first ever WPIAL girls’ wrestling championships on Saturday and the Tigers crowned one of their own as an individual champion. Senior Leyna Rumpler became North Allegheny’s first WPIAL champion in program history by claiming district gold at 155 pounds. She defeated Connellsville’s Imani Cameron-Botti in the title bout with a win by fall in 1:25. Rumpler finished 3-0 with 3 first period falls.

Four other Lady Tigers took home medals on this historic day. Senior Hannah Williams finished in fourth place at 118 pounds with three falls. Junior Kaylee Dean also finished in fourth place, recording two falls at 190 pounds. Senior Audrey Morrison took fifth at 142 pounds, recording two falls on the day. Freshman Heidi Radford placed seventh at 235 pounds with one fall.

All five Lady Tigers qualified for the first ever PIAA West Regional Tournament on March 2.

Other Lady Tigers that competed at the first ever WPIAL Girls’ Wrestling Championships were juniors Riona Redshaw (106), Isabella Cuomo (112), Brenna Collery (136) and Maya Scott (148), sophomores Ava Frailey (170) and Anna Kovacic (124) and freshman Lorelei Bungard (130)
