NA Rallies For 42-30 Win Over Saegertown

Posted on:

The North Allegheny girls’ wrestling team rallied from a 24-point deficit to capture a thrilling 42-30 victory over visiting Saegertown on Tuesday night.

Prior to the dual meet, North Allegheny seniors Audrey Morrison, Leyna Rumpler and Hannah Williams were honored. The Tiger trio were original members to the team and helped spearhead the effort to start the program at North Allegheny and sanction girls’ wrestling in the PIAA. For an historic four-year career at NA, Morrison, Rumpler and Williams were named the Wright Automotive Wrestlers of the Match.

Despite falling behind 30-6 through the first six bouts on the meet, the Tigers shrugged off the hefty deficit and rallied behind three pin falls and three forfeits to seize a 42-30 victory. The comeback started with a pin fall by Maya Scott in 35 seconds at 142 pounds and was followed by another pin fall by Morrison at 148 pounds to cut the deficit to 30-18. After a win by forfeit for Ava Frailey at 155 pounds trimmed the deficit even further at 30-24, the Tigers tied the meet at 30-30 on a win by fall courtesy of Rumpler at 170 pounds over Zoey Sample. With two bouts remaining, NA picked up two more wins by forfeit to claim a 42-30 triumph.

The win improves North Allegheny’s record to 8-1 on the season. The Tigers will take part in the WPIAL championships on Saturday, Feb. 17.
