Tigers Claim First Ever PIAA Dual Meet Win At Connellsville
The Lady Tigers traveled to Connellsville for their first ever PIAA dual meet in school history. They were going up against the No. 3-ranked team in the WPIAL and a team that just finished in second place at the Powerade Girls Wrestling Tournament over Christmas break. The bout featured 13 girls that were ranked in the WPIAL.The Lady Tigers showed amazing grit as they grinded out the programs first ever PIAA dual meet win, 48-20.Lady Tigers claim first ever PIAA Dual meet win.
The match started at 106, and junior Riona Redshaw got the Lady Tigers on the board with a fall in 3:29 over No. 3-ranked Macey Zinsky. Connellsville responded with two consecutive wins to take an 11-6 lead. Senior Hannah Williams changed the momentum at 124 with a second period fall over No. 4-ranked Jayli Mackey, and put the Tigers up 12-11. At 130, junior Brenna Collery followed up with a quick first period fall to extend the lead to 18-11. Connellsville then picked up another fall at 136 to bring the team score to 18-17. The Lady Tigers then rolled off two more falls by junior Maya Scott (142) and senior Audrey Morrison (148) to widen the Lady Tigers lead to 30-17. The 155 pound bout featured the two top ranked girls in the WPIAL. Senior Leyna Rumpler secured a first period fall against No. 2-ranked Imani Cameron-Botti to boost the lead to 36-17. Connellsville then grabbed a victory at 170 and freshman Heidi Radford and junior Kaylee Dean received forfeits to close out the match.North Allegheny is now 1-0. The Lady Tigers host the NA Girls Duals on Saturday at 9 AM.
