Late goal leads to 6-5 NA victory over West Allegheny

The North Allegheny Inline Tigers hung on for a close victory in a back and forth affair over the West Allegheny Indians by a score of 6-5 on Sunday at the RMU Island Sports Center.
The first period saw minimal scoring as the Tigers held the Indians scoreless and sophomore Travis Herm notched the only goal, assisted by junior Liam Huey and The Tigers ended the period leading the Indians 1-0.
The second period initially saw missed opportunities by both teams but it was the Indians scoring a shorthanded goal to open the frame. Tigers’ sophomore Adam Cameron responded with a goal, assisted by Herm to regain the lead. But the Indians took advantage of a Tiger penalty and added one additional goal to end the period with the Tigers trailing, 3-2.
Both teams battled in the third period with the Indians opening the scoring and taking a 4-2 lead. The Tigers responded with three goals in less than ninety seconds. Leading the drive was junior Marcus Garcia assisted by senior Matthew Noffsinger, then it was Noffsinger assisted by Garcia, and Garcia once more assisted by junior Christian Mark to tie the score at 5-5. Both teams stood strong through the back half of the frame but it was the Tigers’ Garcia who ultimately scrambled around the net and scored with three seconds remaining to give the Tigers the 6-5 advantage.
Senior goalie Claudia Kushon earns the win as the Tigers improve their record to 3-2. The Tigers’ next game time and opponent are to be determined.
