Posted on:

North Allegheny traveled to Mt. Lebanon High School on Saturday morning to take part in the WPIAL Individual Championships. The Tigers had three girls advance to the PIAA West Regional as Addison Urschler and Alex Gosnell each finished in third place while Carly O’Connell had a fourth place finish.

Urschler won her first two matches by fall before being tripped up in the semifinals against Karsyn Champion of Norwin. Urschler would take on Olivia Shultz of Connellsville in the consolation semifinals. This would be their third meeting this year, having split the first two matches against each other. Urschler set the tone and took a 3-0 lead into the second period. However, Shultz would score seven points in the second period and extend her lead to 10-5 with 37 seconds remaining. Urschler got an escape to bring the score to 10-6. She scored a takedown with 12 seconds remaining to bring her within one point of Shultz. With only two seconds remaining, Urschler was able to put Shultz in near fall criteria and was awarded two points as time expired to win 11-10. The dramatic win advanced Urschler to the third-place match. In the third-place match, Urschler pinned Canon-McMillan’s Kadence Merigo to clinch the bronze medal.

Gosnell got a bye to the quarterfinals where she won by pin before falling to Jenna Chapman of Albert Gallatin in the semifinals. Gosnell met Monica Osborne of Butler for the fourth time this year in the consolation semifinals. After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, she was trailing Osborne 7-3 with 30 seconds left in the match. Gosnell was able to get an escape and then a takedown with nine seconds left in regulation to force overtime. She only needed 12 seconds in overtime to secure a takedown and win 10-7 to advance to the third-place match. Gosnell claimed a 7-0 win over Latrobe’s Elizabeth Kantoris in the third-place match.

O’Connell won by fall to open her tournament before losing to Kaila Keesecker from Derry in the quarterfinals. She bounced back with a 6-2 win and a 7-1 win in the consolation bracket to get to the consolation semifinals. O’Connell faced off against Mia Scalise in a rematch of the finals from the North Allegheny Invitational where Scalise won 1-0. O’Connell set the tone with a second period escape, takedown and near fall to break open an 8-0 lead. She then added on two more third period takedowns to win 14-5 and advance. O’Connell fell to Knoch’s Braylee Ireland in the third-place match to finish in fourth.

Aleigha Revelant and Tapanga Bornt went 2-2 on the day. Heidi Radford, Suela Raci, Gabriella Molina, Lorelei Bungard and Sally Horton all picked up wins as well.
