Winni Hayward fell at No. 1 singles against Jasmine Taylor 2-6, 0-6 in a hard hitting match. Samantha Leeman was defeated by Eden Amolik 2-6, 1-6 in a match that was closer than the score indicates. Mia Kaufman was upended at No. 3 singles 2-6, 0-6.
Playing their best match of the season, North Allegheny’s number one doubles team of Ruoxi Bai and Sophia Yu were up 6-1, 3-1 when the match was ended. NA’s second doubles team, who was undefeated in dual match play this season, Remi Hayward and Medha Thirumala were down a set, but up a break in the second set when the match was called.
It was a tremendous year for the 19-3 girls varsity tennis team. They were undefeated in section play, won both section singles and doubles, reached the WPIAL and PIAA Semifinals. While the team season is over, there is still hardware to win on the individual side. Winni Hayward will play in the PIAA Singles Championships while Mia Kaufman and Samantha Leeman are headed to the PIAA Doubles Championships next weekend in Hershey.
