This weekend senior Leyna Rumpler traveled to Atlantic City to compete at the 2024 USA Wrestling Phil Portuese Northeast Regional. The tournament is one of six regionals across the country that serve as a qualifier for the 2024 U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. Girls from 11 different states competed at the tournament.

Rumpler was competing in the Women’s Junior Freestyle 170-pound bracket and entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed. She pinned Madison Wagner of Pennsylvania in 18 seconds in the first round to advance to the semifinals. She then faced off against No. 2 seed Alexandra Lubczenko of New York. Rumpler used a series of takedowns and turns to put together a 12-1 technical fall.

With the win, Rumpler advanced to the finals to face No. 1 seed Lauren Garcia of New York. Garcia is a returning Junior National Women’s qualifier and finished third at the 2024 NYSPHSAA Girls State Tournament this winter. Rumpler wasted no time scoring a takedown in the first 10 seconds en route to a 10-0 technical fall.

Rumpler’s USA Wrestling Regional title is the first in North Allegheny Girls Wrestling history. She will now compete at the 2024 U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Junior Nationals on July 13-14 in Fargo, North Dakota.
