
NA Rallies To Win Season Opener Over USC, 4-1
The North Allegheny girls’ tennis team opened the 2022 season on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-1 non-section victory over Upper St. Clair.
The host Tigers picked up singles victories by seniors Emily Wincko and Abbey Swirsding. At No. 2 singles, Wincko defeated Evie Ellenberger by a 6-4, 6-1 decision. After dropping the first set at No. 3 singles, Swirsding came back strong with wins of 6-1 and 6-2 in the next two sets to defeat Claire Loomis.
In doubles play, the No. 1 pairing of Reagan Dougherty and Rebecca Murphy topped USC’s Kayla Lumish and Margi Lethia in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 6-4). Continuing the trend of the day, the No. 2 combo of Tia Soussou and Eileen Hu dropped the first set before winning the next two (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) over Isabella Zhang and Lauren Trainer.
Following the opening day win, the Tigers will return to action on Thursday for a non-section matchup at Latrobe at 3:15 p.m.
