NA Rowing Hosts Annual Erg In the Burgh Event

North Allegheny Rowing Association hosted the 23rd annual Erg In the Burgh at Marshall Middle on Saturday. The Tigers were thrilled to host 300+ entries from teams across Pittsburgh.

The day kicked off with a Coxswain 1K,  the NA Tiger Women swept the podium with Ava Moore, Mandy Adduci and Evie Disque claiming 1st – 3rd respectively,  followed by juniors Lauren Keyser in 4th and Abigail Berger in 5th.

Freshmen Abigail Greiner and Jocelyn Munroe raced in the Lightweight Novice category and kept the medals count going for the Tigers bringing home a gold & bronze medal. The day proceeded with 5 Novice Mens entries, which included 2 new personal bests (Max Disque and Suraj Raina).

The JV Women also proved record setting for several athletes, Junior Madison Lambert (4th place) and Katherine Zema (5th place) both broke 8 minutes, finishing just 0.4 seconds apart and setting new PR’s. Natalie Helffrich (17th) also set a new bar for herself.

The Tigers next medal of the day came from Miles Rees who held 1st place throughout the 2K distance by  less than 10 meters ahead of second place to finish in 7:08.1 in the Mens LWT JV event. Fellow Junior Nolan Bunn set a new record for himself in the same event, subtracting an impressive 5.7 seconds off his previous time. The Men’s Open JV entries for the Tigers raked in new PRs from junior Carson Carona & sophomore Cooper Lemon.

The day wrapped with mixed relays – the Tigers had a Varsity, JV & Novice/ Middle School Entry. The varsity line up of Madison Lambert, Katherine Zema, Sawyer Wright, Anthony Bertucci, Miles Rees & Carson Corona started behind Three Rivers, but chipped away at the deficit to ultimately finish 1st. The JV lineup (Phoenix Core, Neil Pore, Cooper Lemon, Boe Sumerlin, Alexandra Witzel & Natalie Helffrich) also finished first, a full 15.1 seconds ahead of the second place finisher The Novice/Middle School Line up of Abigail Greiner, Jocelyn Munroe, Greta Edfors, Max Disque, Suraj Raina and Jamie Hamed fought a strong field and finished 3rd.

Erg In the Burgh is the final indoor competition of the indoor season, the Tigers head to Moraine State Park on 3/11 for the first practice of spring season and are looking forward to 4/20/24, where they kick off spring racing at Huron River Sprints.
