Tigers crown 2 champions at NA Invitational, Rumpler named Most Outstanding

The North Allegheny girls’ wrestling team hosted a 29 team field that had over 200 girls compete on Saturday. The Lady Tigers were paced by two champions and finished in second place as a team. NA scored 129 points, finishing behind No. 2-state ranked Cumberland Valley, who posted an impressive 246 total points.Senior Leyna Rumpler (155) posted a 4-0 record enroute to a first place title and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestling. She wrestled a total of one minute and 52 seconds over the course of those four matches. Rumpler posted falls in 15, 16, and 50 seconds on her way to the finals. In the championship bout, Rumpler pinned WPIAL No. 2-ranked Imani Cameron-Botti of Connellsville in 31 seconds.

Also claiming gold was junior Kaylee Dean. Dean won by fall in her first two matches, including a fall over WPIAL No. 6-ranked Haley Hunter of Seneca Valley in the semifinals. In the finals, she defeated WPIAL No. 4-ranked Abigail Hewitt of Norwin, 7-1.Senior Audrey Morrison finished in fourth place. She finished 3-2 on the day with three falls. Her two losses came at the hands of WPIAL No. 2-ranked Anastasia Manchester of Butler and WPIAL No. 4-ranked Grace O’Korn of Peters Township. Junior Maya Scott finished in 6th place, posting a 3-3 record with 3 falls.Senior Hannah Williams posted a 3-2 record with 2 falls and finished in seventh place. Sophomore Ava Frailey finished in eighth place with two falls.Freshman Anna Kovacic posted a strong performance going 3-2 with three falls. Sophomores Lorelei Bungerd and Ava Anthony and junior Brenna Collery all finished the day 2-2.

Ahead of WPIAL’s, the Tigers will host Saegertown on Senior Night on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:00 PM. The Senior Night meet will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
