Tigers finish fifth at Mt. Lebanon Girls Winter Classic

North Allegheny traveled to Mt. Lebanon High School to participate in the Mt. Lebanon Girls Winter Classic on Saturday. The Tigers had six wrestlers finish in the top six and ended up with 123 team points, good enough for fifth place out of 32 teams.

Heidi Radford was the top finisher for NA on the day coming in second place.

With a smaller field at 190 pounds, Radford started her day with a pin over Malikah Abdul-Waalee of Neighborhood Academy in the quarterfinals. Radford followed up that performance with a pin of Seneca Valley’s Haley Hunter in the semifinals to get to the 190-pound final. In the final, Radford dropped a heart-breaking 1-0 decision to Ravyn Cameron-Botti of Connellsville to finish runner-up.

Addison Urschler ended the day in the third place.

Urschler got a pin in her first match of the day before falling to Clearfield’s Makayla Taylor in the quarterfinals. Urschler would bounce back to win three straight matches by fall in the consolation bracket to get to the third-place match. In the third-place match, Urschler pinned Olivia Shultz of Connellsville to take home the bronze medal.

Sally Horton was a fourth-place finisher on Saturday.

Horton won her first two matches via pin before falling in the semifinals to Leila Crowe of Knoch. Horton bounced back to pin Nazareth’s Ella Daubert to get to the third-place match. In the third-place match, Horton dropped a tough 10-9 decision to Angel Rougeaux of Clearfield to finish in fourth in the 130-pound bracket.

Tapanga Bornt and Alex Gosnell each finished in fifth place.

In one of the bigger fields, Bornt won her first three matches by pin before falling in the quarterfinals to Trinity Moore of Connellsville. Bornt fell in the consolation semifinals to end up in the fifth-place match. In the fifth-place match, Bornt put up 26 points defeating Butler’s Sienna Stutz by major decision.

Gosnell got the day started with a pin of Kennedy Chambers of Upper St. Clair in the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals. Gosnell dropped a 5-3 decision to Sahara Williams of Westinghouse to put herself in the fifth-place match. In the fifth-place match, Gosnell pinned Butler’s Monica Osborne.

Ava Frailey had a sixth-place finish.

Frailey lost her opening match but bounced back to win the next two to get to the consolation semifinals. Frailey was tripped up in the consolation semifinals to go to the fifth-place match. In the fifth-place match, Frailey fell to Beth-Center’s Keiara Atkinson to finish in sixth.

Lorelei Bungard, Anna Svoboda and Aleigha Revelant went 2-2 on the day. Kaelyn Fraley, Suela Raci and Gabriella Molina picked up wins.

The Tigers return to action when they travel to Seneca Valley on Wednesday to take on the Raiders at 7 p.m.
