Winni Hayward claims Section 2 Singles title

The second day of the Section 2 girls’ tennis singles tournament wrapped up with a clash between the Tigers top two players. When play was settled, freshman Winni Hayward (#1 seed) defeated sophomore Sammy Leeman (#3 seed) by a score of 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match Thursday morning. Both ladies played sparkling tennis each day and demonstrated that the Tigers had two winners on the courts on Thursday.
Both Hayward and Leeman qualified for the WPIAL Singles tournament scheduled to start on Wednesday, September 23. Locations, starting times, and the draw will all be revealed early next week.
In the meantime, the Tigers team returns to action Friday afternoon with an exhibition versus Hampton. Match time is 3:45 PM against the Talbots at the Hampton Community Park courts.
