The Tigers won their fifth straight match without a loss with a 3-0 victory over Seneca Valley at the Senior High gym on Thursday night.  Senior MB John Skarupa led the way with 12 kills and three blocks as NA won by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-22.

The Tigers got off to a good start against the Raiders building a 8-2 lead.  Skarupa posted three kills, senior OH Derek Zweig had another, and senior S/OH Steve Semler served an ace during the run.  After two NA errors and an ace by Seneca's Conner Barrett, sophomore setter Michael Krepp served the next five points to give NA a 15-5 lead.  A SV hitting error and net violation, coupled with two kills by junior MH Matt Miller and a block by senior OH J.J. Leroux, were key in the run.  After an NA hitting error, Semler posted a kill, Matt Miller went down the middle and Zweig went off the Seneca blockers as the NA lead went to 18-7.  A kill and a block by Raider Paul Kurlak cut the margin to 19-10, before a Skarupa kill and a point on some miscommunication by the Raiders.  With the score 21-10, the Raiders rallied with Alex Muckle serving.  Two kills by Barrett and a dink by John Fitzpatrick along with several NA hitting errors brought the Raiders to within five at 21-16.  Fitzpatrick matched a Skarupa kill, and Semler and Luke McGinnis exchanged points to bring NA to game point at 24-18.  Matt Miller finished off the first game with a big hit down the middle as NA won by a 25-18 score to take a one game to none lead in the match.

In game two, kills by Skarupa and Leroux gave NA an early 4-2 advantage.  Kurlak went cross court and Fitzpatrick scored on a block to even the game at 4-4.  The Raiders took their first lead of the match on an NA hitting error and extended the margin to 9-7.  A kill by Semler down the line, a blast by Skarupa on a quick set, and a kill by Leroux that hit the back line put NA back on top at 10-9.  Seneca Valley, behind the hitting of Barrett and Fitzpatrick regained the lead as they pushed the score to 18-16.  Semler answered with a kill off the SV blockers, Zweig put back an overpass, and Skarupa went down the middle on another quick set to put the Tigers back ahead, 19-18.  Seneca Valley wasn't finished, however, as kills by Kurlak and Barrett put the Raiders on top, 22-20.  After a kill by Leroux and a Seneca hitting error tied the game, Barrett blocked for a point that put Seneca ahead, 23-22.  At this point, the Tigers regrouped to score the next three points and win the game.  Matt Miller went cross court to tie the contest, Semler went down the middle to make it 24-23, and Leroux found open space in the middle as NA won game two, 25-23, to take a two games to none lead in the match.

The lead went back and forth early in game three.  NA took a 3-2 lead on a SV hitting error, but the Raiders came back on an ace by Muckle and an NA error to make it 4-3.  After another NA hitting error gave Seneca a 7-6 lead, Leroux went off the SV blockers to tie the game.  A service error, a block by Matt Miller, another block by Skarupa, and an ace by senior L/DS John Wappler put the Tigers on top for good at 12-9.  A kill by Skarupa, a blast by Zweig down the middle, a put back by Zweig on an overpass, another Skarupa kill off a quick set pushed the margin to 16-10.  The Raiders battled back to cut the margin to 17-14 behind the hitting of Barrett and several NA hitting errors.  Kills by Leroux and Semler kept NA ahead as the score went to 20-17.  Another ace by Wappler was matched by a kill from McKinney.  Skarupa went cross court to give NA a 22-18 lead.  After Fitzpatrick scored on a tip and an NA error cut the lead to 22-20, a service error by the Raiders pushed the margin back to three.  Barrett followed with a kill off the NA blockers but a violation by the Raiders made it a 24-21 game.  After SV scored again, Leroux finished off the game and match with a kill down the middle.  The Tigers won game three, 25-22, and the match, three games to none.

Leroux posted nine kills, while Matt Miller and Semler added eight kills each for the winning Tigers.  Leroux and Miller had two blocks each as the Tigers were strong at the net.  Semler and Krepp posted 19 assists each.  Leroux had ten perfect passes while Wappler followed with eight.  Defensively, Wappler led with 15 digs with Leroux registering eight.  Wappler also recorded two service aces.

After the relatively easy win in game one, Seneca Valley battled the Tigers to the end in games two and three.  A number of NA players stood out in the victory, but the North Allegheny Sports Network selected Matt Miller as the Player of the Match.

Game three was even in the early going.  After Mikrut tied the score at 4-4, the Tigers took charge again.  Two kills by Adam Miller, another by Zweig on a Norwin overpass, and two straight service aces by Leroux gave NA an 11-4 lead.  Kills by Adam Miller and Skarupa extended the margin to 14-6.  After a block by the Knights' Bryan Guzewicz, Leroux and Dennison matched kills as the score went to 16-9.  A kill by Leroux and a block by Nicklas extended the NA margin to 18-10.  After a Mikrut block, the Millers took over.  Two straight kills and a block by Matt were followed by a Leroux kill and a block by Adam to extend the NA lead to 23-12.  After a Ferragonio kill kept Norwin alive, a service error by the Knights ended the match with the Tigers winning game three, 25-13, and the match, three games to none.
