EMMA LUITGAARDEN'S FIVE GOALS LEAD
NA OVER KNOCH, 10-6

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Junior Emma Luitgaarden scored five goals to pace NA to a 10-6 victory over Knoch at Newman Stadium on Wednesday night.  Sophomore Hannah Weiers scored twice while freshman Jessica Patridge, freshman Carly Luitgaarden, and sophomore Cara Dumont added single tallies for the winning Lady Tigers.

The Tigers jumped off to a 3-0 lead early.  After senior Amber Wetzel hit the post, Emma Luitgaarden raced out from behind the goal to score the first goal six minutes into the contest.  Weiers took a pass from Carly Luitgaarden and beat Knoch goalie Hannah Ziebart to make it 2-0 with 14:07 remaining in the half.  Emma Luitgaarden scored again to increase the lead to 3-0 at the 13:41 mark.  Knoch answered four minutes later when Jess Protzman scored on a free position shot.  Paige Smith came out from behind the goal to cut the lead to 3-2 with 7:45 remaining.  Weiers picked up a ground ball and scored on an overhand shot from in front of the Knoch goal to increase the margin to 4-2 with 7:19 left in the half.  The Knights came back on a long run and goal by Jamie Antoszek with 3:57 remaining to cut the margin to one at 4-3.  Emma Luitgaarden made it 5-3 on a free position attempt when she faked right, cut to the left and scored.  The Lady Tigers took a two-goal lead to the intermission.

Early in the second half, Smith scored in second goal coming out from behind the net to cut the NA advantage to 5-4 just 4:01 into the half.  Freshman Jessica Partridge, who was just sent into the lineup by NA Head Coach Karyn Brooks, took the face off and raced down the middle to score and restore the two-goal lead just ten seconds later.  Emma Luitgaarden picked up her fourth goal coming up from behind the net and beating Ziebart on an underhand shot to increase the lead to 7-4 with 19:27 left in the game.  Carly Luitgaardent cut to the right across the middle to score at the 10:30 mark to give NA their first four-goal lead at 8-4.  Krissy Harbison was able to convert on a pass from behind the NA net with 9:03 left to cut the lead to 8-5.  Less than a minute later, it was Emma Luitgaarden again coming out from behind the Knoch goal to score her fifth of the game and restore the four-goal margin.  After Smith answered with her third of the game, Dumont cut across the middle and scored on a left-handed shot for the final goal of the game with 5:12 remaining as the Lady Tigers took a 10-6 victory.

It was a good team effort by NA particularly in stopping a number of free position attempts by Knoch.  The Knights were only able to score on one attempt as freshman goalie Nia Parillo made numerous saves and the Lady Tiger defense helped out on other attempts.  For her offensive efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Emma Luitgaarden as the Player of the Game.

With the win, NA improved their overall record to 2-1 in the early season.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Quaker Valley tomorrow afternoon to meet the Quakers in a 5:00 pm non-section contest.

JV UPDATE: The JV team defeated Knoch, 14-3.
