Tigers drub Dragons, advance to PIAA Quarterfinals

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
The North Allegheny boys’ tennis team returned to their winning ways in a PIAA first-round playoff match against Allderdice less than a week after falling in the WPIAL Championship. The Tigers rebounded nicely to take care of business with a 5-0 thrashing of the host Dragons.
Sophomore sensation Advaita Sircar shook off any lingering effects of his first loss in a team match in over a year to dominate Barak Raz at 1st singles, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Evan Kaufman similarly responded with a strong performance at 2nd singles to trounce Will Kuchera, 6-2, 6-2 and the Tigers were off and running. Needing just one more point to clinch the match, the all-captain doubles team of senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas punched the Tigers ticket to Hershey with a 6-2, 7-5 win at 1st doubles.
Despite a lengthy break between sets, senior Sri Thirumala remained unfazed and, with a rare burst of emotion, throttled Hari Arunachakan at 3rd singles, 6-3, 6-1. This performance, in one of his final four performances in the black and gold, earned Thirumala “Man of the Match” honors. Finally, 2nd doubles wrapped up their match and the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 thrashing of their Dragon foes. It is the 4th shoutout in the last 5 playoff matches for NA. The team is now 16-2 on the season.
North Allegheny advances to the PIAA Quarterfinals where they will take on Unionville, the fourth-place finisher out of District 1. Match time is set for 4:00 PM on Friday at Hershey Racquet Club.

NA wins silver, advances to PIAA Championships

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
It wasn’t the result the Tigers were looking for as they traveled south to Washington & Jefferson College for the WPIAL Team Championship. For the third year in a row, North Allegheny took on the Gateway Gators in the WPIAL Final. Having split the previous two seasons, it was the Gators who took the rubber match, 3-2.
North Allegheny’s depth was evident right from the start as they dominated both doubles just as they did a year ago. Senior captain Nick Scheuring paired with junior captain Adhav Ramadas to stake the top-seeded Tigers to an early 1-0 lead by winning 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles. The all-sophomore tandem of Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde quickly doubled the lead by throttling their opponents at second doubles, 6-2, 6-1.
All NA needed now was a win at singles, but alas it wasn’t meant to be on this day. Senior star Sri Thirumala battled valiantly at 3rd singles but fell 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore sensation Advaita Sircar staged a strong comeback in the first set at 1st singles, but faltered, 6-3, 6-1. All eyes turned to 2nd singles where junior Evan Kaufman fought hard, but was tripped up, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
Nonetheless, the season isn’t over for the Tigers. They have advanced to the PIAA Team Championships next week. The team will play a first-round match on Tuesday. Opponent, site, and time are to be determined.

Tigers tame Panthers, advance to WPIAL Championship

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
For the second time in eleven days, North Allegheny took on the Panthers of Upper St. Clair. While the first meeting was a friendly exhibition match, this time much more was at stake—a trip to the WPIAL Championship Match. Therefore, the Tigers did what they have done so often this season and shut out their opponent.
North Allegheny got on the board first thanks to a wonderful performance by their team captains at 1st doubles. Senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas took control early and breezed to a 6-1, 6-3 win. The decisive victory gave the team a lead it wouldn’t relinquish and was enough to earn the pair “Men of the Match” honors. Following in the same vein, the 2nd doubles team of sophomores Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde silenced their opponents by an identical score of 6-1, 6-3 to double NA’s lead to 2-0.
As the skies grew dark with imminent rain, all eyes turned to the singles matches to see if NA could finish off the win before the weather had a say and potentially granted USC a temporary reprieve. Senior standout Sri Thirumala would have none of it. After a close back and forth first set, the Tiger netter saw his chance to end the match and quiet the raucous Panther supporters. Thirumala clinched the victory at 3rd singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win to advance the #1 seeds to the championship for the third straight season.
Shortly thereafter, sophomore sensation Advaita Sircar finished off his worthy adversary at 1st singles, 6-3, 6-3 to leave no doubt as to who was the better team on this day. Sircar is still unbeaten in dual match play for NA this season. Finally, junior Evan Kaufman struggled early on, but once again came roaring back. Unfortunately, lightning in the area precluded him from completing the comeback as the match was called just as he found his stride, 4-6, 6-2 (DNF)
Up next, the Tigers will take on the Gateway Gators in the WPIAL Championship Match for the third time in a row. The teams split the previous two meetings with Gateway winning in 2023 and the Tigers prevailing last season. The match will be held at the Janet L. Swanson Tennis Center at Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday at 2:00 PM.

Tigers punish Panthers in WPIAL Quarterfinals

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
For the second time this season, North Allegheny took on the Panthers of Franklin Regional. While the first match saw a close 3-2 victory for the home team, this time around, the Tigers left no doubt by winning 5-0 in the WPIAL Quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon at the North Allegheny High School courts.
Sophomore sensation Advaita Sircar opened the scoring for the top-seeded Tigers by throttling Collin Stalnaker at 1st singles, 6-1, 6-0. The 2nd doubles tandem of sophomores Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde doubled the lead to 2-0 by annihilating their Panther opponents, 6-1, 6-0. The clinching point came off the strings of senior star Sri Thirumala who has found his niche at 3rd singles, also winning 6-1, 6-0.
At this point, the only question left was if a sweep was in order. The all-captain 1st doubles team of senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas did their part. After getting off to a strong start, the pair had to battle a second set lull to prevail, 6-1, 7-6 (2). All eyes turned to 2nd singles where junior Evan Kaufman got off to a slow start in dropping the first set, 6-7 (3). The veteran came roaring back to win the second set 6-2, which set up a decisive match tiebreaker. Here the “Man of the Match” was decided as Kaufman took the breaker and the match 10-7 while keeping the shutout in order.
The Tigers have once again advanced to the WPIAL Semifinals where they will take on perennial powerhouse and fourth-seeded Upper St. Clair for the second time in as many weeks. Date, time and location are all still to be determined.

Tigers hammer Highlanders in WPIAL First Round

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
The top-seeded North Allegheny boys’ tennis team opened the 2025 WPIAL playoffs the same way they played most of the season, by winning in dominant fashion with a 5-0 thrashing of visiting Baldwin at the North Allegheny High School courts on Monday afternoon.
Senior standout Sri Thirumala staked the Tigers to a quick 1-0 lead by dismantling Baldwin’s Hayden Swanson, 6-0, 6-0. The stunningly quick victory while losing just a handful of points was enough to earn Thirumala “Man of the Match” honors. The 1st doubles team of senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas immediately doubled the lead while also shutting out their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. The clinching point came at 2nd doubles where the all-sophomore combination of Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde swept the doubles team from Baldwin, 6-0, 6-0.
With victory assured, attention turned to the top two singles players. Junior Evan Kaufman made quick work of Carter Smeal at 2nd singles, 6-0, 6-0. The only thing left to be decided was if it would be a clean sweep. Sophomore sensation Advaita Sircar made sure of that by winning a rather vociferous match in the top slot, 6-0, 6-0. It was the ninth shutout of the season and the second “clean sheet” of the year as the Tigers did not drop a single game.
The win is North Allegheny’s 12th in a row to improve to 13-1 on the season. The Tigers advance to the WPIAL Quarterfinals where they will take on eighth-seeded Franklin Regional on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. from the North Allegheny High School courts. The Panthers defeated Peters Township, 3-2, in the WPIAL First Round.

Tigers thrash Panthers

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
The Boys’ Tennis Team traveled to the South Hills for a late season tune-up and a potential WPIAL semifinal preview as they took down the Upper St. Clair Panthers, 4-1 on Thursday afternoon.
The 1st doubles team of senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas are making a habit of getting the Tigers on the board first as they trounced their Panther foes, 6-1, 6-2. The always reliable 1st singles player and sophomore sensation, Advaita Sircar quickly followed up by dominating USC’s Ari Plutko, 6-1, 6-1. Sircar, despite always going against the toughest competition from the other team, remained undefeated in dual-match play. The clinching point came at 2nddoubles as sophomores Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde got off to a strong start, before eventually, and thankfully, silencing the USC tandem, 6-1, 6-4.
At 3rd singles, senior Sri Thirumala, playing in isolation in the bubble, made the lead 4-0. Thirumala rattled off his fifth straight singles win as he settles into his new position. Unfortunately, the potential sweep fell just short as junior Evan Kaufman fell at 2nd singles, 6-3, 6-3.
In today’s outing, there was no “Man of the Match”, but rather “Men of the Match” as the honors go to the entire varsity team as they worked together, as one, to attain a big victory against a potential playoff opponent.
North Allegheny improves to 12-1 overall. Upper St. Clair falls to 10-2. Up next, the Tigers returns south as they head to Peters Township on Friday for one final playoff primer before beginning the Team Championships on Monday as the #1 overall seed. Match time on Friday is 3:30 p.m.
The Tigers will host Baldwin in the first round of the playoffs on Monday at the NASH courts, also at 3:30 p.m.

NA Doubles reach Quarterfinals of WPIAL Tournament

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
At Tuesday’s WPIAL doubles championship, both of NA’s regular doubles teams played some high-level tennis against some of the best players in the area at the North Allegheny High School courts.
In the first round, the fifth-seeded team of senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas fell behind early but battled back against the strong Franklin Regional team of Prem Nadasen and Arnesh Parua. After getting down 3-2, the pair rallied to win eight of the next nine games to decide the match 10-3. The 10th seeded team of sophomores Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde pulled off the only real upset of the tournament as they dropped the seventh-seeded team of Sai Chaudry and Kiran Tevar from Shady Side Academy. The duo got out to an early 4-1 lead only to see Shady Side battle back to tie the match at 4-4. The Tiger tandem then won 4 straight to go up 8-4. Shady Side once again rallied to make it 8-7, but NA got a late break to clinch the seesaw affair.
In the quarterfinals, Telang and Ginde fell behind early to the #2 overall seeded Mt. Lebanon team of Luca Ritivoi and Mark Summers, 4-1 and 9-3. However, the pair never quit and gave the Blue Devils all they could handle before falling 10-7. In the other Elite Eight matchup, Scheuring and Ramadas also took on a higher seeded team in Ari Plutko and Shawn Khurana from Upper St. Clair. The back-and-forth matchup saw each team break and hold early as they raced to a 3-3 tie. After a no-break saw USC go ahead, the Tiger duo battled back to go in front 6-5. Unfortunately, the serve of Plutko proved to be the difference as the Panthers prevailed 10-7. Both teams performed admirably and lived up to their seeds.
Next up, North Allegheny travels to perennial powerhouse Upper St. Clair for a non-section tilt on Thursday. This key matchup will prove pivotal for both teams as they head into next week’s WPIAL Team Championships. Match time is set for 3:30 PM.

Ramadas and Scheuring win Section Championship

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
At this week’s section doubles tournament, NA’s two doubles teams dominated the competition. On Tuesday, both teams won two matches to reach the semifinals and on Wednesday, they both won their respective half of the draw to set up an all-NA final.
The top-seeded team of junior Adhav Ramadas and senior Nick Scheuring picked up where they left off yesterday by dominating the Butler #1 team comprised of Andrew Bocci and Ryan Conaway, 6-2, 6-1. In the other semifinal, the team of upstart sophomores Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde picked up their second “upset” in a row by downing the third-seeded team from Mars made up of Ethan Palmer and Cal Johnson, 6-2, 6-0. This set up a coach’s dream matchup where an NA section doubles champion was guaranteed even before the final began.
In the championship match, Scheuring opened up the scoring with a hold on his serve in the first game. However, it was the sophomores who drew first blood as they held Telang’s serve, broke Ramadas, and then held Ginde’s turn to take a 3-1 lead. The pressure was on the upperclassmen, but they didn’t blink. Scheuring held again, the pair broke Telang, and held Ramadas’ serve. After a break of Ginde, Scheuring was able to hold for the third straight time to consolidate the break and take the first set, 6-3.
The second set started with Telang holding serve to give the sophomores a brief lead. But the veterans were undeterred. Ramadas held and the tandem broke Ginde to take a 2-1 lead. Scheuring held yet again and after a break of Telang for a 4-1 lead, victory was all but assured for the captains. After a last gasp break of Ramadas, the #1 seeds cruised to claim the second set, 6-2.
Man of the Match/Tournament honors went to Ramadas in a unanimous vote. Ramadas relied on his powerful serve, overpowering groundstrokes, and seasoned experience to lead the champions through four matches in two days.
Both teams advance to the WPIAL Championships next week at Bethel Park. It will be Ramadas’ third appearance and Telang’s second. Meanwhile, both Scheuring and Ginde will be making their first trip to the tournament. North Allegheny as a team returns to action on Monday when they travel to Upper St. Clair to take on the Panthers at 3:30 p.m.

NA Doubles Teams Advance to Section Semifinals

by: Boys Tennis Contributor
At Tuesday’s Section 2-3A doubles tournament, both of NA’s regular doubles teams won the first two rounds to advance to the semi-finals at the Pennsylvania Tennis Academy in Wexford, PA.
Seeded #1 and #7 overall, both teams made quick work of their first-round opponents. The Tigers #1 team of senior Nick Scheuring and junior Adhav Ramadas took on the #2 team from Butler comprised of Ryan Curry and Ethan Winters. The captains showed why they were given the #1 seed by dominating from start to finish in a decisive 10-0 victory. Meanwhile, NA’s #2 team made up of a pair of sophomores in Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde, played against the #1 team from North Hills, consisting of Othmane Eljoufi and Riley Farrar. They also got off to a hot start which enabled them to cruise to a 10-2 win.
In the quarterfinals, it was more of the same from Scheuring and Ramadas as they downed Jason Chen and Rob Fogle from Sewickley Academy. Although facing a step up in competition, the tandem left no doubt who would be advancing to the semifinals by routing their Panther opponents, 10-1. The upset of the tournament came from Tigers #2 team as they faced off against the #2 overall seed in Sewickley Academy’s Will Bojalad and Ben Terrell. Perhaps feeling a little disrespected by their low seed, Telang and Ginde proved that they are not the average seven seed. The pair used a combination of stealthy poaching and great touch to dominate the match 10-4.
Both teams’ excellent play today assured that they will advance to the WPIAL Doubles Championships next week.
However, the section tournament must first be decided. The two teams will return to action tomorrow in the semifinals hoping to set up another all-NA final.
The penultimate matches are set to begin at 10:00 AM with the championship and consolation matches to follow at Pennsylvania Tennis Academy in Wexford.
