The North Allegheny field hockey team went toe-to-toe with the four-time reigning WPIAL champion Pine-Richland Rams on Monday night and dropped a hard-fought 4-1 decision in Section 1-AAA action.

Following a scoreless opening stanza, Pine-Richland scored the game’s first goal when Jessica Albertson found the back of the net with 3:47 on the clock for a 1-0 lead. North Allegheny answered back quickly with a goal from junior Mia Brinkley with 2:38 left in the half to knot the score at 1-1. The tie was short-lived, however, as Georgia Rottinghaus gave the Rams a 2-1 lead with 1:50 remaining before intermission.

Junior goalie Kayla Joyce had another incredible night in net, making 36 saves on the night. While Joyce stonewalled the Rams for much of the game, Pine-Richland’s persistence paid off with two late goals to pull away for the win. Rottinghaus struck again with 2:00 left in the fourth quarter and Madeline Mill tacked on one more goal with 25 seconds to play to bring the final score to 4-1, Pine-Richland.

North Allegheny’s record slips to 5-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in Section 1-AAA. Pine-Richland remains undefeated on the season with a 10-0 overall record and 6-0 mark to lead the section. The Tigers return to action on Wednesday for an important road section contest at Mt. Lebanon.
