NA Swimmers Open Section 2 Schedule with Win over Shaler
The North Allegheny swimming team opened the section 2 schedule with a convincing win over Shaler High School. The boys’ team won every event in a 83 – 65 victory. The girls’ team won all the events except the 50 Free in their 89 – 73 victory.
The boys’ squad was led by several double winners. Maxwell Gonzalez won the 200 Free and then the 100 Back. Mason Gonzalez doubled in the 200 IM and the 500 Free while Ricky Mihm won the 50 Free and the 100 Breast. Thomas McCaffrey won the 100 Fly and Ethan Song won the 100 Free. Mason Gonzalez led a group of 3 freshman (Josh Galecki, Audric Pastor and Ricky Mihm) in winning the 200 Medley Relay. Maxwell Gonzalez led 3 freshmen (Ethan Song, Patrick Upton and Josh Galecki) in a 400 Free Relay win. The team of Mason Gonzalez, Thomas McCaffrey, Ricky Mihm and Ethan Song won the 200 Free Relay.
The girls’ team was led by double winners Torrie Buerger and Megan Christy. Torrie won the 500 Free and the 100 Breast while Megan won the 200 IM and the 100 Back. Nicole Marnell won the 200 Free while Mary Flavin led a North Allegheny sweep in the 100 Fly. Olivia Laun was victorious in the 100 Free. The 200 Medley Relay team of Mary Flavin, Serena Yan, Torrie Buerger and Kathryn Davis cruised to victory. Nicole Marnell, Serena Yan, Kathryn Davis and Emma Kunzmann won the 200 Free Relay while Emma Kunzmann, Caitlyn Edwards, Megan Christy and Torrie Buerger won the 400 Free Relay.
The team travels to Bucknell University on Saturday for the Bucknell Invitational. The team returns home on Tuesday, January 10, for a sectional meet against Pine-Richland.
