NA Swimmers Remain Undefeated With Victory Over Butler

The North Allegheny swimming and diving teams remained undefeated in WPIAL Class AAA Section 2 competition with wins over Butler on Thursday, January 22 at North Allegheny Senior High School.  Senior Morgan Soulia won two individual events as the girls won 95-72, and senior Casey Melzer won 200-yard individual medley as the boys won 93-71.

Soulia won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:06.67 and the 50-yard freestyle in 25.02.  Other first-place finishers for the girls were sophomore Katie Davis in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.18); senior Charlie Brickner in the 100-yard freestyle (55.61); junior Erin Kuhn in the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.74); senior Kayla Churman in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.90); and freshman Kristine Mihm in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.71).  Soulia and Churman teamed with fellow seniors Claire Washabaugh and Jacquelyn Du to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:42.71.  Juniors Katie Wright, Gianna Caputo, Erin Kuhn and Taylor McClellan combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.15.  Mihm teamed with Kuhn, sophomore Caitlyn Edwards and freshman Ann Juneau to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:57.55.

Melzer won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.13.  Other winners for the boys were sophomore Eben Krigger in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.60); senior Peter Neal in the 50-yard freestyle (23.70); senior Max Staresinic in the 100-yard freestyle (49.51); and senior Jake Krivacs in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.96).  Krigger teamed with senior Andrew Lehman and freshmen Matt Kuhn and Andrew Zhang to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:44.41, while Krivacs, Neal, Lehman and junior Gage Halle teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:26.64.  Halle teamed with junior Colin MacDonald, sophomore Brett Edwards and freshman Zachary Shuckrow to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:35.97.

In diving, senior Julia Vespoli took first place with 259.99 points for the girls, while senior Andrew Doerfler won the boys’ competition with 297.30 points. For a full look at meet results, click here.
