Sircar, Kaufman Advance to WPIAL Singles Tournament

Posted on:

At Wednesday’s section singles tournament, both freshman phenom, Advaita Sircar and sophomore sensation, Evan Kaufman qualified for the WPIAL Singles Championship.  By virtue of their stellar early season play, both players were given a top seed and the first-round byes that accompany such a distinction.  Seeded #1 overall, Sircar advanced with a 10-0 victory over the Mars #1 singles player. Second seeded Kaufman defeated his Butler opponent, 10-3. The wins earned the pair passage into the section semi-finals and an automatic WPIAL Championship birth.

However, the section championship must first be decided. The two will return to action on Thursday at noon hoping to set up an all-NA final. Sircar will meet the #1 singles player from Seneca Valley, Michael de Vyver. Meanwhile, Kaufman will square off against North Hills’ top talent, Josh Kim.

The semi-finals are slated for 12:00 PM at the Pennsylvania Tennis Academy, with the final and consolation matches to follow.
