Tigers Make Final Prep For Championships At Last Ditch Invitational
Senior Gianna Caputo, sophomore Matt Kuhn and freshmen Nicole Marnell and Lila McGrath all posted qualifying times for the WPIAL Championships in two individual events on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the annual Last Ditch Meeting at North Allegheny Senior High School. The WPIAL Championships will be held Thursday March 3 and Friday March 4 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Trees Pool.
The North Allegheny qualifiers among the girls were sophomore Jordan Ennis (2:03.01) and freshmen Marlyn Root (2:04.01) and Ally Christy (2:04.12) in the 200-yard freestyle; freshman Emily Cuba in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.99); McGrath (25.62), Gianna Caputo (25.75) and Marnell (25.85), all in the 50-yard freestyle; Caputo in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.81); McGrath in the 100-yard freestyle (56.03); Marnell in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.66); and junior Kennedy Urban in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.57).
Among the boys, individual North Allegheny qualifiers were sophomore Kuhn in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.92) sophomore Zachary Shuckrow in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.29); senior Mac Pelo in the 50-yard freestyle (23.08); and freshman Teague Urban (58.52), Kuhn (59.40) and freshman John Ehling (59.50) in the 100-yard backstroke.
The NA girls have won seven consecutive WPIAL team championships and eight in the last 12 years. The NA boys have four straight team titles and nine in the last 10 years.
