Tigers Roar to Final Four

The North Allegheny Varsity Softball Team advanced to the semi-final round of the W.P.I.A.L. Playoffs on Wednesday evening with a 4-2 victory over the Canon-McMillan Big Macs in a game played at Baldwin High School. The Tigers opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning by cashing runs on a bases-loaded walk and a subsequent wild pitch. The Macs answered back in the bottom half of the inning by plating two runs on three hits to tie the game at two. The score remained the same until with two outs in the top of the seventh sophomore third baseman Kristen Chomos drove a ball over the left field fence to score right fielder Maddy DeRubbo, who had walked, with run number three and followed closely behind her to score the fourth run for the Tigers. Canon-McMillan got one runner on base in the bottom of the seventh, but sophomore pitcher Brooke Serbin, who pitched a complete game, ended the threat by inducing a ground ball to Chomos, who threw to first baseman Dana Manz, securing the Tigers’ spot in the semis.

North Allegheny will face the number-one ranked Hempfield Spartans on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined. The NA Athletic Website will have further information when it becomes available.
