Tigers Sweep Titans With Major Offensive Outburst

Anna Kovacic drove in six runs on three hits to lead the North Allegheny slow-pitch softball team past Shaler, 20-1, in game one on Sunday.
The Tigers struck early in the bottom of the first inning. An error plated the first run, Claudia Kushon drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, Kovacic tripled to bring home two, Viola Laswell added an RBI single, and Megan Sweeney followed with another run-scoring hit to make it 6-0.
NA broke the game wide open in the second inning, plating 13 runs. Highlights included an RBI single by Kushon, a three-run homer from Kovacic, a two-run triple by Zoey Bornt, RBI hits from Sweeney and Ava Combs, back-to-back triples from Asha Vaders and Lily Daugherty, and another RBI single from Kovacic.
Laswell got the start in the circle for the Tigers, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run over five innings. She walked two and did not record a strikeout.
North Allegheny finished with 21 hits. Kovacic, Sweeney, and L. Daugherty each collected three hits, while Bornt, Vaders, Jordan Phillips, and Kushon all chipped in with multiple hits.
The Tigers were flawless defensively, turning one double play and committing no errors. Kushon handled a team-high six chances in the field.
Olivia Klaich drove in seven runs on four hits to lead the North Allegheny past Shaler, 43-6, in game two.
The Tigers exploded for 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Klaich got things started with a two-run single, followed by a two-run single from Amara Daugherty and a three-run single from Zoey Bornt. Megan Sweeney and Olivia Smith each added RBI hits, while Lily Daugherty’s fielder’s choice, another single from Klaich, a base hit from Claudia Kushon, and a two-run double from A. Daugherty capped off the huge inning.
North Allegheny kept rolling in the second, plating nine more runs on nine hits. Highlights included a double from Jordan Phillips, RBI singles from Bornt, Smith, and Kushon, a bases-loaded walk by L. Daugherty, a two-run double from Klaich, and a triple by Anna Kovacic.
The Tigers put the game completely out of reach in the third inning, scoring 20 runs on 21 hits. The offensive barrage featured extra-base hits from Sweeney, Ava Combs, Vaders, A. Daugherty, Laswell, and Phillips, along with run-scoring singles from Bornt, L. Daugherty, Kushon, Kovacic, and several others.
Olivia Smith started in the circle for North Allegheny, allowing four hits and six runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking four.
North Allegheny pounded out 43 hits in total. Kushon led the way with a perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate. A. Daugherty and Klaich each drove in seven runs, while Laswell, Kovacic, Bornt, Smith, Vaders, Sweeney, L. Daugherty, Phillips, and Combs all recorded multiple hits.
Next up for the North Allegheny is a matchup at West Allegheny on Sunday.
