Tigers pick up sweep over West Allegheny

Game 1
Olivia Klaich went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the North Allegheny Tigers to a 14-5 victory over West Allegheny on Sunday.
The Tigers struck first in the top of the first inning when Klaich doubled down the right-field line and Claudia Kushon singled to center, each driving in a run.
West Allegheny answered quickly in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs to take a 4-2 lead.
North Allegheny regained control in the second inning, plating four runs to go up 6-4. The rally included an error that brought home a run, a two-run single by Lily Daugherty, and an RBI single from Klaich.
The Tigers extended their lead in the third inning as Zoey Bornt reached on a fielder’s choice, another run scored on an error, and Ava Combs ripped a triple to make it 10-4.
In the fourth, Amara Daugherty drove in two with a double, and Klaich added another RBI single in the fifth. West Allegheny added one run in the bottom of the fifth, but Anna Kovacic answered with an RBI single in the sixth to cap the scoring at 14-5.
Viola Laswell earned the complete-game win for North Allegheny, allowing 10 hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings while walking two.
The Tigers’ offense piled up 17 hits. Along with Klaich’s four-hit day, Asha Vaders, L. Daugherty, A. Daugherty, and Jordan Phillips each recorded multiple hits. Kushon and Laswell also chipped in with one hit apiece. Defensively, North Allegheny turned two double plays.
West Allegheny collected 10 hits in the game.
Game 2
The North Allegheny Varsity Tigers defeated West Allegheny 7-4 in the second game on Sunday.
The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after a West Allegheny error and an A. Daugherty triple to left field, each bringing in a run.
North Allegheny extended its lead with three runs in the bottom of the second on RBI singles from Laswell, Megan Sweeney, and Combs.
Sweeney added two insurance runs with a double to right center in the bottom of the fourth.
West Allegheny answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 7-2, and added two more in the top of the seventh before the Tigers closed out the win.
Klaich got the start in the circle for North Allegheny, allowing 10 hits and four runs over seven innings.
The Tigers collected 12 hits in the game. Sweeney, L. Daugherty, and Combs each had two hits, with Sweeney going 2-for-2 and leading the team with three RBIs. Vaders, Kovacic, Phillips, and Bornt also chipped in a hit apiece.
Defensively, the Tigers didn’t commit a single error. Kushon led the team with six chances in the field.
Next up, North Allegheny visits North Hills on Sunday.
