Tigers blank Blue Devils
by: Boys Tennis Contributor
Over the past three years, there has only been one team to beat the North Allegheny Boys’ Tennis Team in the regular season, Mt. Lebanon. On Tuesday afternoon, the Tigers hosted the Blue Devils with revenge on their minds. After dropping a narrow 3-2 decision to Mt. Lebanon in the second match of last season, NA made sure there would be no repeat upset by drubbing the visitors, 5-0.
In just his second high school match, junior Ashwin Sudhakar teamed with senior Matthew Kampi to stake NA to a 1-0 lead by blanking their opponents at first doubles, 6-0, 6-0. It was a lead NA would not relinquish and enough to earn the pair Men of the Match recognition. The doubles teams put on a clinic as juniors Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde followed up with a 6-0, 6-2 domination at second doubles to increase the lead to two.
Now it was time for the singles players to get on the board and senior captain Evan Kaufman left no doubt as to the outcome of the match. The Case Western commit made short work of his second singles foe to clinch the win for the Tigers, 6-0, 6-1. A few moments later, junior captain and future Navy Midshipman, Advaita Sircar kept the momentum rolling by shellacking Mt. Lebanon’s best player, 6-0, 6-0. All eyes turned to 3rd singles to see if a sweep was in order. Senior captain Adhav Ramadas, a consummate team player, overcame a slow start to the second set to make sure the Tigers maintained a clean sheet by winning, 6-1, 7-5.
Tomorrow, the team travels to the South Hills to play their first road match of the young season. The Tigers will visit Chartiers Valley with match time set for 3:30 p.m.
