NA boys repeat as state champions; Girls finish runner-up
The North Allegheny swimming & diving team concluded their season over the weekend at the PIAA Championships hosted by Bucknell University. The boys’ team defended its state crown winning their eighth overall while the NA girls finished in second place.
The NA boys finished with 227 points, 37 points ahead of runner-up La Salle College. On Wednesday, the Tigers got off to a
historic start as Danny Lesinski, Alex Harbaugh, Mason Shantz and Zachary Totin not only won PIAA gold in the 200-yard medley relay but they broke the state record posting a 1:29.19. The previous record was 1:29.74 held by Upper St. Clair from the 2015 season. Lesinski went on to claim fifth in the 200-yard IM as well. Totin placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle while Shantz took fifth in the 100-yard butterfly. The 200-yard freestyle relay also took home the gold medal as Totin, Odin Hsu, Shantz and Harbuagh swam in 1:22.14. For boys results from Wednesday, click here.
On Thursday, Totin took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, Jackson Ross was the sixth-place finisher in the 500-yard freestyle while Lesinski placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke. The Tigers took home fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay. For boys results from Thursday, click here.
In the diving portion of the event, Ethan Maravich took home PIAA silver with a score of 509.40. Anthony Farrah placed eighth. For boys diving results, click here.
The NA girls ended the championships with 225 points, 32 points behind Upper Dublin. On Wednesday, the 200-yard medley
relay team of Dani Hinkson, Tori Tieppo, Eva Ogden and Madden Woycheck claimed bronze with a time of 1:44.46. Claire Bacu was the 200-yard freestyle PIAA Champion with a 1:49.07. Julia Tengowski placed fifth in the event. Hinkson finished seventh in the 100-yard butterfly. The 200-yard freestyle relay of Annie Elliot, Sydney DeHainut, Woycheck and Bacu placed second. On Thursday, Bacu claimed her second state gold medal winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.34. Tengowski finished in fifth. The NA 400-yard freestyle relay took home the PIAA bronze with a time of 3:26.55. For the girls results from Thursday, click here.
