North Allegheny Head Varsity Coach Matt Woffington was recently selected as the 2025-2026 NFHS/ Pennsylvania Boys’ Tennis Coach of the Year. Honorees are selected annually by the PIAA and “chosen for their significant impact on their respective sports programs, the success of their teams, their commitment to PIAA, and their demonstration of outstanding sportsmanship throughout the year”.

In the three years since taking over the reins at North Allegheny, Woffington has guided the program to a remarkable overall record of 55-4. His teams have reached the WPIAL Championship all three seasons, winning gold in 2024 and 2026.

Most recently, the 2026 season was a historic one for the team. The Tigers posted a perfect 21-0 record to win the school’s sixth WPIAL and third PIAA team titles. Woffington’s players won WPIAL gold and silver medals in singles, WPIAL gold in doubles, and the WPIAL Team Championship to complete the program’s second ever WPIAL “Triple Crown”. They followed that up by winning the PIAA Singles, Doubles, and Team titles to complete the State “Triple Crown”. The Tigers became just the second overall and first from the western half of the state to accomplish that historic feat. It is also the first PIAA Singles Championship for North Allegheny since 1976.

Before joining NA, Woffington coached both the boys’ and girls’ teams at neighboring North Hills for 15 seasons each. He also served on the WPIAL Steering Committee for 13 years. He follows in the footsteps of his father, John Woffington, who led the Tigers to 4 WPIAL titles and 2 PIAA Championships.
