NA upended by Penn-Trafford

North Allegheny fell to Penn-Trafford Monday evening in a non-section contest, 10-0 at the NASH Softball Field.

Penn-Trafford sent nine batters to the plate before North Allegheny could record an out scoring seven runs on seven hits. Cailyn Wateska came into pitch and slowed the Warrior offense down to end the threat giving up one hit but striking out three.  She would go on to complete the game giving up only three runs and four hits to earn the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.  

Zoey Rychel had a pair of singles. Alison Friend, Erin Fadgen, Blake Hornyak and Twila Goulding each had a hit.  North Allegheny drops to 4-12 and will take on Connellsville today in another non-section contest at home at 4 pm.

North Allegheny tripped up by Canon-McMillan in key section contest

North Allegheny traveled to Canon-McMillan on Tuesday afternoon in a very important Section 1-6A contest. The Tigers just couldn’t get the offense going as they were tripped up by the Big Macs by a score of 3-0.

Twila Goulding had the lone hit for NA.

Brianna Mensch got the start for North Allegheny going five innings allowing seven hits, three runs (two earned), a walk and a strikeout. Cailyn Wateska threw an inning of relief.

North Allegheny falls to 4-11 overall and 4-10 in section play. The Tigers return to action today when they travel to North Hills to take on the Indians in a non-section contest at 4 p.m.

Tigers drops Section Game to Norwin On Senior Day

North Allegheny dropped an 11-1 decision to Norwin on senior night.  Norwin scored four runs in the first inning. Chloe Bavolar drove in two of her five runs batted in with a double.  She was 4-for-4 on the day.  

The Tigers scored their lone run in the bottom of the first when courtesy runner Zoey Bornt scored on an RBI double from Brianna Mensch.  

Norwin scored four more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth while the Tigers collected one more hit from Zoe Rychel in the third.  

Twila Goulding was the Wright Automotive Player of the Game for her two fine defensive plays.   

North Allegheny drops to 4-10 overall and 4-9 in section play.  They will play their last section game on Tuesday against Canon-McMillan, which could determine the final playoff spot in Section 1-6A. The game will be at 4:15 pm.

Tigers drop tight one to Pine-Richland

North Allegheny traveled to Pine-Richland High School for a Section 1-6A battle with the Rams on Wednesday afternoon. In a tightly contested game, the Rams got the better of NA winning in walk-off fashion, 7-6.

Zoe Rychel was 3-for-3 on the day. Blake Hornyak, Alison Friend, Erin Fadgen, Leah Carlson and Taylor Condiotte all had two hits. Fadgen doubled and drove in three runs. Condiotte also doubled.

Brianna Mensch got the start going four and two-thirds innings. Cailyn Wateska went two innings of relief.

North Allegheny falls to 4-9 overall and 4-8 in the section. Pine-Richland improves to 6-8 overall and 5-7 in section play. The Tigers return to action on Friday when they host Norwin at NASH Softball Field at 5:30 p.m. This will be Senior Night and the game will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.

Slow start against Mt. Lebanon dooms NA

On a cold and windy Monday afternoon, North Allegheny dropped a 9-1 decision to Mount Lebanon.  The Blue Devils started quickly, scoring four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Lily Dwyer.  

Freshman Ellie Torcia came on in the second inning and pitched three innings of relief, giving up two hits and two runs to slow Mount Lebanon down.  Meanwhile, the Tiger offense could not get things going, stranding two runners in the third and fifth innings.  North Allegheny scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh when Zoe Rychel laced a double down the left field line to score pinch runner Alison Friend.  

Blake Hornyak was the Wright Automotive Player of the Game, laying down two successful bunts.

North Allegheny falls to 4-8 overall and 4-7 in section play.  They travel to Pine-Richland on Wednesday for another key section matchup at 4 p.m.
