Lady Tigers Win 3rd Straight WPIAL Crown, 14th Overall

The North Allegheny girls’ track and field team won its third consecutive WPIAL crown and 14th overall on Tuesday at the WPIAL Class AAA championships at West Mifflin High School. The 14 overall district titles for the Lady Tigers matches Butler for the most in WPIAL history. The NA Girls defeated Norwin (78-72), North Catholic (113-31) and Mt. Lebanon (81-69).

First-place performances for the Lady Tigers were delivered by senior Erin McGoey (3200-meter Run), senior Sophie Aglietti (Pole Vault), sophomore Audrey Maxwell (Discus Throw), senior Jamie Frisco (Shot Put) and the 4×800 relay team.

Placing second were junior Wren Kucler (1600m Run), sophomore Mackenzie Winning (400m Dash), senior Eva Kynaston (3200m Run), junior Izzy Costa (Long Jump and High Jump), freshman Amara Daugherty (Javelin Throw), sophomore Taylor Neese (Shot Put) and the 4×100 relay team. Taking home WPIAL bronze were Kynaston (1600m Run), junior Kendall Lucas (800m Run), sophomore Lindsay Breneman (Pole Vault), senior Lauren Burks (Discus Throw and Shot Put) and junior Anna Fiffik (Javelin Throw).

The NA Boys also competed at the WPIAL championships and finished in third place. The Tigers defeated Penn-Trafford (98.50-51.50) but fell to Norwin (91-59) and Butler (97-53). There were several outstanding performances by the Tigers, including senior Zach Duckworth and junior Jack Yatchenko who won WPIAL gold in the Pole Vault and Shot Put, respectively.

Second-place efforts were turned in by junior Jack Bertram (1600m Run), senior Cameron Chmura (Shot Put) and the 4×800 relay team. Bronze medal winners included freshman Brady Brinkley (400m Dash), junior Grey Lowman (300m Hurdles), junior Nicholas Humphries (Long Jump), junior Dylan Langdon (High Jump) and sophomore Nathan Orlando (Discus Throw). The 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams also placed third.

NA Girls Take 1st At Baldwin Invitational, Boys Place 2nd

The North Allegheny track and field team took part in dual invitationals on Friday and put forth an impressive showing ahead of the WPIAL championships next week. The Lady Tigers won the team title at the Baldwin Invitational with a team score of 92, while the NA Boys took second place with a team score of 59.50.

For the Lady Tigers, first-place performances were delivered by sophomore Mackenzie Winning (400-meter Dash), junior Izzy Costa (Long Jump), sophomore Audrey Maxwell (Discus Throw) and sophomore Lindsay Breneman (Pole Vault).  Garnering silver medals were Costa (400m Dash) and senior Jamie Frisco (Shot Put). Third place went to sophomore Taylor Neese in the Shot Put.

Leading the way for the NA Boys, the quartet of Nelson Branch, Tyree Alualu, Nicholas Humphries and Khiryn Boyd took first place in the 4×100 relay. Sophomore Zach Duckworth placed second in the Pole Vault and junior Jack Yatchenko won bronze in the Shot Put.

NATF Cruises Past Competition at WPIAL Semifinals

The North Allegheny boys’ and girls’ track and field teams breezed past the competition at the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at NASH. The Boys defeated Hampton (132-18), Canon-McMillan (102-48) and Blackhawk (121-29). The Lady Tigers topped Hempfield (88-62), Canon-McMillan (96-54) and Blackhawk (130-20).

First-place performances for the NA Boys included junior Jack Bertram (1600m Run), senior Zach Duckworth (Pole Vault), junior Nicholas Humphries (Long Jump), sophomore Nathan Orlando (Discus Throw) and junior Jack Yatchenko (Shot Put).  The relay teams in the 4×800 and 4×100 also took first place.

The Tigers thoroughly dominated in the pole vault and shot put, taking 1-2-3 in each event. Along with Duckworth’s first-place effort, seniors Nathan Slade and Triston Chick grabbed second and third place, respectively, in the pole vault. Following Yatchenko in the shot put, senior Cameron Chmura and junior Kyle Langdon placed second and third.

The Lady Tigers were equally impressive with first-place performances turned in by sophomore Mackenzie Winning (400m Dash and 200m Dash), senior Erin McGoey (1600m Run), junior Izzy Costa (100m Dash), junior Kendall Lucas (800m Run), junior Wren Kucler (3200m Run), senior Sophie Aglietti (Pole Vault) and junior Jamie Frisco (Shot Put). The 4×800 Relay also took first place.

The NA Girls garnered a 1-2-3 showing in the 3200m Run. Following Kucler’s first-place effort, senior Eva Kynaston and McGoey finished in second and third, respectively.

The North Allegheny track and field team advances to the WPIAL Class AAA championship on Tuesday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. at West Mifflin High School.

Tigers Compete at Butler 9th/10th Grade Invitational

The North Allegheny track and field team took part in the Butler 9th/10th Grade Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

For the Lady Tigers, first-place performances were turned in by freshman Luana Tripon (Long Jump) and sophomore Taylor Neese (Shot Put). The 4×100-meter Relay Team (Myla Benoit, Bella Montgomery, Tripon and Molly Robertson) and the 4×400 Relay Team (Kayli Dings, Alicia Mokube, Lily Ries and Robertson) also stood atop the podium in first place.

Silver medals were garnered by Benoit (100m Dash) and sophomore Ava Thayer (300m Hurdles).

Third-place finishes went to Montgomery (100m Dash), Dings (800m Run), Robertson (200m Dash), sophomore Elinor Handel (3200m Run), freshman Josephine Lesinski (High Jump) and sophomore Audrey Maxwell (Discus Throw). The quartet of Anna Getz, Ries, Handel and Madeleine Jablonski also won bronze in the 4×800 Relay.

The NA Boys saw four first-place finishes, including sophomore Greg Gedman (200m Dash), sophomore Andrew Peigh (3200m Run), sophomore Aidan D’Errico (High Jump) and sophomore Nate Orlando (Discus Throw).

Orlando also took second place in the Shot Put, while the foursome of Jack Davis, Gedman, Rocco Martino and Nathan Kubica claimed a silver medal in the 4×100 Relay.

Bronze medals were secured by Gedman (100m Dash and Long Jump), Kubica (200m Dash) and freshman Luca Aglietti (Pole Vault). Third-place was also seized by the 4×400 Relay Team of Andrew Morton, Andrew Rusiski, Will Ason and David Ochoa.

NATF Sweeps Tri-Meet With Pine-Richland, Fox Chapel

The North Allegheny track and field teams each earned a tri-meet sweep on Tuesday afternoon with victories over Pine-Richland and Fox Chapel. The NA Boys defeated Pine-Richland, 120-30, and overwhelmed Fox Chapel, 120-30. The Lady Tigers prevailed over the Rams, 103-47, and topped the Foxes, 113-36.

The NA Boys were paced by first-place performances by junior Jack Bertram (1600-meter run and 3200m run), junior Ben Hickel (110m Hurdles), senior Khiryn Boyd (100m Dash), junior Zach Nash (400m Dash), junior Grey Lowman (300m Hurdles), sophomore Andrew Peigh (800m Run), senior Nelson Branch (200m Dash), junior Dylan Langdon (High Jump), senior Zach Duckworth (Pole Vault), junior Nicholas Humphries (Long Jump), junior Dylan Bobak-Rouce (Javelin Throw) and junior Jack Yatchenko (Shot Put). The 4×800 and 4×100 Relay teams also garnered first-place showings.

The Lady Tigers were led by first-place efforts from junior Izzy Costa (100m Dash, 200m Dash and Long Jump), senior Jamie Frisco (Javelin Throw and Shot Put), senior Eva Kynaston (1600m Run), sophomore Maya Currie (400m Dash), junior Elizabeth Pizon (800m Run), sophomore Lindsay Breneman (Pole Vault) and sophomore Audrey Maxwell (Discus Throw). The 4×800 and 4×400 Relay Teams also took first place.

The NA Boys improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Lady Tigers remain unbeaten at 7-0. NATF will take part in the WPIAL Team Semifinals next week.
