NA Excels At WPIAL Individual Track & Field Championships

The WPIAL Class AAA individual track and field championships were held this week at William C. Lennox Track on the campus of Slippery Rock University. The championships turned into a two-day event due to inclement weather that halted activities on Wednesday evening. The championships were completed on Thursday afternoon.

In day one for the Lady Tigers, three gold medals were obtained, including the quartet of seniors Eva Kynaston and senior Erin McGoey, and juniors Kendall Lucas and Elizabeth Pizon in the 4×800-meter Relay. Additionally, senior Jamie Frisco (Shot Put) and sophomore McKenzie Winning (400m Run) took home WPIAL gold.

Silver medal performances were turned in by junior Izzy Costa (400m Run) and sophomore Lindsay Breneman (Pole Vault). Sophomore Taylor Neese took third place in the Shot Put before hustling off to join her softball teammates in the WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinals and made a pinch-hitting appearance late in the game. Senior Sophie Aglietti grabbed fourth place in the Pole Vault, while sophomore Maya Currie (400m Run) and junior Wren Kucler (1600m Run) placed fifth in their respective events. Lucas placed sixth in the 800m Run.

For the NA Boys on day one, senior Zach Duckworth garnered WPIAL silver in the Pole Vault. WPIAL bronze was won by the 4×100 and 4×800 Relay teams. The 4×100 quartet included senior Khiryn Boyd, junior Nicholas Humphries, senior Tyree Alualu and senior Nelson Branch. The 4×800 grouping was composed of junior Jack Bertram, junior Greg Abel, sophomore Andrew Peigh and junior Sebastian Klimchak.

Elsewhere for the NA Boys, junior Grey Lowman took fourth place in the 300m Hurdles, Bertram placed fifth in the 1600m Run and freshman Brady Brinkley grabbed sixth place in the 400m Run.

Day two saw the Tigers collect even more hardware. The Lady Tigers won gold in the 4×400 Relay with Lucas, Costa, Currie and Winning combining to cross the finish line in first place. Costa placed fourth in the Long Jump, while the Tigers dominated the 3200m Run with Kynaston (3rd), McGoey (5th) and Kucler (7th) all standing on the podium.

For the NA Boys, Bertram added to his trophy case with a third place finish in the 3200m Run. For a look at all of the results from the WPIAL individual track and field championships, click here.
