Junior Jack Bertram set the North Allegheny school record in the 1600-meter run on Friday in day one of the PIAA Class AAA championships at Shippensburg University. Bertram’s time of 4.07.17 broke a nearly 60-year-old record previously held by Jerry Richey with a time of 4.08.4 set back in 1965.

By setting a new best at North Allegheny, Bertram’s performance was good for fifth place in the event. Also earning points for the NA Boys was senior Zach Duckworth, who finished in eighth place in the Pole Vault.

The Lady Tigers were paced by sophomores Lindsay Breneman and Taylor Neese who each placed sixth in the Pole Vault and Shot Put, respectively. Senior Jamie Frisco followed Neese in the Shot Put with an eighth-place throw.

Following day one, the NA Boys sit in 15th place with five points, sitting eight points behind first-place Butler. The Lady Tigers are tied for sixth place with eight points and are just seven points behind front-runners Mount Saint Joseph Academy. For a look at results from the PIAA championships, click here.
