Advaita Sircar Reaches Quarterfinals Of PIAA Singles Tournament

Following a successful team campaign that saw the North Allegheny boys’ tennis team reach the PIAA Class AAA semifinals, freshman phenom Advaita Sircar took part in the PIAA Class AAA singles championship tournament this weekend.

In the first round, Sircar took on Hayden Koons of Dallastown and earned a 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-0 victory. Unfortunately, Sircar’s run in the tournament ended in the quarterfinal round against eventual PIAA champion David Lindsay of Central Mountain. Lindsay prevailed 6-1, 6-1 over Sircar on his way to a second career state title. For a look at the entire Class AAA singles bracket, click here.

Sircar ended an amazing rookie year with the Tigers and finished as the singles champion in Section 2-AAA and the WPIAL. He also led NA to a WPIAL team title for the first time since 2009 as the No. 1 singles player. Congratulations to Sircar on a great season.

NA Upended By Conestoga In PIAA Semifinals

The magical run for the North Allegheny boys’ tennis team came to an end on Saturday morning in the PIAA Class AAA semifinals with a 3-0 loss to Conestoga at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Conestoga, the runners-up from District 1, advanced to the state championship with a sweep in doubles play and a victory at No. 3 singles. Senior Voyin Markovic picked up a 6-3, 7-5, win over sophomore Evan Kaufman.

In doubles play, the No. 1 pairing of Basil Lubiniecki and Francis Qin earned a 6-0, 6-0, win over Srivatsav Thriumala and Shivum Telang. The No. 2 combo of Raphie Lubiniecki and Derek Qin clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2, decision over Adhav Ramadas and Adtihya Ramadas Guptha. For full results, click here.

A terrific 2024 season concludes with an 18-1 overall record and a WPIAL championship and PIAA final four appearance. Congratulations to head coach Matt Woffington and the entire North Allegheny boys’ tennis team for an outstanding season.

NA Defeats Unionville In PIAA Quarterfinals, 3-1

The North Allegheny boys’ tennis team advanced to the PIAA Class AAA semifinals with a 3-1 quarterfinal win over Unionville on Thursday from the Hershey Racquet Club.

Unionville, the third-place finisher out of District 1, managed only a victory at No. 2 singles as Tigers wrangled the Longhorns on their way to the state’s final four. At No. 1 singles, freshman Advaita Sircar defeated junior Matt Miller, 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Evan Kaufman topped junior Andy Ye at No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 6-4, decision.

The No. 2 doubles pairing of sophomore Adhav Ramadas and senior Adtihya Ramadas Guptha locked up the victory for the Tigers by defeating sophomore Elijah Yoon and freshman Brendon Yu, 6-3, 6-3. The No. 1 doubles matchup was not finished. For a look at full scoring, click here.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 18-0 on the season and will take on Conestoga, the runners-up from District 1, in the PIAA semifinals on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The PIAA championship will be held at 4:00 p.m.

Tigers Win Duel With Black Knights in PIAA First Round, 5-0

The North Allegheny boys’ tennis team opened PIAA team tournament play by downing the Landisville Hempfield Black Knights, 5-0, on Tuesday.

The brother-brother combination of senior Adithya Ramadas Guptha and sophomore Adhav Ramadas got the Tigers on the board first with a dominant victory at second doubles, 6-2, 6-1. Shortly thereafter, freshman Advaita Sircar doubled the lead by taking down last year’s fourth-place PIAA Singles medalist in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-3. The clinching point of the match once again came off of the racquet of senior Trey Davidson at second singles, 6-3, 6-2.

Finishing off the singles sweep was sophomore Evan Kaufman who downed his opponent at number three, 6-1, 6-4. Finally, junior Sri Thirumala and freshman Shivum Telang assured the shutout with a 6-1, 6-4 win at first doubles.

The Tigers improve to 17-0 on the season and will now head to Hershey for a PIAA Quarterfinal match. The team will take on the Unionville/Abington Heights winner on Friday at 12:30 PM.

Tigers Defeat Gators, Win 5th WPIAL Championship

The North Allegheny boys’ tennis team traveled to Washington and Jefferson College and brought home their fifth WPIAL Team Championship. In a rematch of last year’s championship which saw Gateway victorious, this year’s Tiger team was not to be denied. Junior Sri Thirumala and freshman Shivum Telang staked the Tigers to an early lead with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first doubles. The brother-brother combination of senior Adithya Ramadas Guptha and sophomore Adhav Ramadas doubled the lead to 2-0 with a total annihilation at second doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

Senior Amit Bhandari was a tough out for a talented Gateway Gator at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1. At this point, all eyes turned to the top two singles matches. While freshman Advaita Sircar dropped a hard-fought first set 7-6 (5), senior Trey Davidson won his first set 6-3. Davidson then built an early 3-0 lead in the second set and cruised to the win, 6-3, 6-1. As the festivities commenced, Sircar had to try to erase a deficit amid the raucous celebration around him but ultimately fell, 6-1.

Nonetheless, the victory was the 16th straight for the Tigers this season and earned them their first WPIAL title since 2009. Next up, the Tigers will play a PIAA first-round match next Tuesday to be held at a site and time to be determined.
