Tigers Tripped Up By Unbeaten Foxes, 13-8

The North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Fox Chapel for a Section 2-AAA contest and dropped a 13-8 decision to the Foxes on Thursday night. The Tigers traded goals with the Foxes in the first half and trailed by just one goal, 6-5, at intermission. However, Fox Chapel netted six consecutive goals to start the second half and seized control for the section win. Senior Sydney Schutzman led the Foxes with a game-high five goal performance.

In the early going, North Allegheny fell behind 2-0 but continued to trade barbs with Fox Chapel in a back-and-forth first half. Junior Avery Anderson and senior Isla Abrams netted back-to-back goals to tie the score, 2-2, with 3:46 left in the first quarter.

Schutzman, and juniors Meg Delaney and Kennedy Murton tallied three straight goals to vault the Foxes back in front, 5-2, with 11:12 to play in the second quarter. Undaunted, North Allegheny answered back by scoring three of the next four goals to cut the deficit to 6-5 at halftime. Junior Madelyn Lemmon, Abrams and Anderson all scored goals in the second period surge for the Tigers. Senior goalie Izzie Trunzo made several acrobatic saves to keep things close in the first half and finished with 16 stops on the night.

Despite NA’s spirited play in the first half, Fox Chapel gained command of the game with six straight goals in the second half for a 12-5 advantage with 10:37 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Tigers didn’t go down without a fight and scored three goals in the final stanza with markers by freshman Sarah Harlan, sophomore Sara Donaldson and one more by Abrams, who finished with a hat trick and an assist. Sophomore Caroline Grimsley, who tallied a hat trick of her own, rounded out the scoring for the Foxes with 57 seconds remaining to close out a 13-8 win. Along with Schutsman’s big night, Delaney finished with four goals for Fox Chapel.

North Allegheny slips to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Section 2-AAA with the loss. Fox Chapel remains undefeated at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the section. The Tigers will seek their first win of the season on Tuesday night with a home date against the Butler Golden Tornado.
