Big Bats Propel Tigers Past Big Macs, 14-3
North Allegheny hit big during Thursday afternoon’s section contest against Canon-McMillan, resulting in a 14-3 victory after six innings of play.
The Tigers started early when a sacrifice fly by senior Julia Drazga put NA on the board in the top of the first. Seven more runs were scored in the third, extending the Tigers’ lead to 8-0. Junior Sammy Plotsko and senior Anne Melle each homered, scoring three total runs. Senior Carlyn Vaupel singled later in the inning, scoring two runs, and Plotsko returned to the plate to score two additional runs on another single.
North Allegheny scored again in the fourth inning; senior Caitlin Logan grounded out with Drazga at third, scoring the run. Then senior Olivia Carlson singled, scoring the Tigers’ tenth run of the game. At the end of the inning, the score was 10-1 in favor of the Tigers.
The Tigers scored four final runs in the top of the sixth. Junior McKenna Rowlands singled, scoring one, followed by a double by sophomore Taylor Neese, scoring two. A final run resulted from a throwing error from Canon-Mac’s defense. While the Big Macs scored a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings, the game ended after six innings with a score of 14-3.
North Allegheny tallied 14 hits throughout the game. Plotsko finished with a 3-for-3 day, including a pair of RBIs. Melle went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, hitting a single, double, and home run. Neese and Carlson each went 2-for-3, earning two RBIs and an single RBI, respectively.
Plotsko started in the circle for the Tigers, pitching four complete innings. She surrendered four hits and one unearned run, striking out four and walking two. Melle pitched the remaining two innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out two.
The Tigers will host Seneca Valley tomorrow night for their next section contest; the first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
