On a warm but windy afternoon, the North Allegheny Boys’ Tennis Team faced their toughest test of the young season as they welcomed the 25-time WPIAL Class AA Champions, Sewickley Academy. However, the visitors quickly realized they were not Class AA anymore as the Tigers downed the Panthers, 4-1.

As he so often does, junior captain Advaita Sircar set the tone for the match by ambushing his first singles opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Ashwin Sudhakar made his first singles appearance of the year and quickly overwhelmed his second singles adversary, 6-1, 6-2 to double the lead. The contest would be decided with one more individual match win. This is where senior captain Evan Kaufman made sure there would be no comeback for the upset-minded Panthers. Kaufman overcame a close second set to clinch the competition for the home team, 6-1, 6-4 earning him Man of the Match honors.

All eyes then turned to doubles to see if a sixth consecutive sweep was in order. Junior Shivum Telang paired with senior Anish Ramachandruni to cruise at second doubles, 6-3, 6-2. Unfortunately, the first doubles team of seniors Adhav Ramadas and Matthew Kampi fell a little bit short, 6-3, 6-2.

Tomorrow, the Tigers travel to nearby Pine-Richland to compete in their fourth straight section bout. Match time is set for 3:30 PM.
