Boys Tennis pummels Peters Township; advances to WPIAL Semifinals

On Thursday, the NA Boys’ Tennis Team was hoping for a chance to avenge their 2025 WPIAL championship loss to Gateway in this year’s playoffs. Sadly, a rematch was not in the offing as the Gators were soundly defeated in the first round. So, the Tigers had to settle for squaring off against Peters Township for the second time in less than a week. Six days ago, the Tigers traveled to the South Hills and soundly defeated PT in exhibition play. In today’s contest, NA hosted the the Indians in the WPIAL Quarterfinals – different day, different location, same result, as the home team once again prevailed in dominant fashion.
Junior captain Advaita Sircar, as he so often does, made quick work at first singles with 6-0, 6-0 demolition of his Indian foe to put the home team on the board first. Junior Ashwin Sudhakar doubled the lead with a 6-3, 6-0 dismantling of his second singles adversary. Senior captain Evan Kaufman got the match clinching point at third singles by annihilating his opponent, 6-0, 6-2. It was almost as if he waited until Sudhakar finished so he could net the match winner.
The first doubles pairing of senior captain Adhav Ramadas and senior Matthew Kampi were pushed to the limits last week in a three-set barn burner. Today, the tandem knew what was at stake and smoked their challengers, 6-2, 6-0. All eyes then turned to second doubles where junior Siddarth Yerram was making his first ever playoff start alongside seasoned veteran, junior Ronit Ginde to see if the sweep was in the making. The duo was pushed, but prevailed 6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-8 earning Yerram his second Man of the Match honors of the season.
Next up, the Tigers will have another rematch with an exhibition match competitor as they will face off against Fox Chapel on Monday with a trip to the WPIAL Championship on the line. The match will be played at Nichols Courts at Sewickley Academy at 3:30 p.m.
