The North Allegheny boys’ tennis team opened the playoffs the same way they played most of the regular season, with another 5-0 sweep. The Tigers welcomed the Latrobe Wildcats, winners of a play-in match over Woodland Hills, but the visitors were no match for the seasoned hosts as they ran their win streak to 14 competitions.

Leading the way for the home team was junior captain Advaita Sircar at first singles. His talented freshman opponent was overwhelmed by the pace and ferocity of the veteran’s shots, 6-0, 6-0. Shortly after, senior captain Evan Kaufman made quick work of his second singles foe to double the lead, 6-0, 6-0. The thrashing proved once again that Kaufman is the heart and soul of the team and earned him Man of the Match honors. The clinching point of the match came at third singles where an unusually sedate Ashwin Sudhakar picked up the win, 6-0, 6-1. There is no doubt the playoffs have not seen, or heard, the last of the uber talented junior.

Attention then turned to doubles to see if a playoff sweep was in store. Senior captain Adhav Ramadas and fellow senior Matthew Kampi took care of business with a 6-1, 6-1 shellacking at first doubles. Finally, the all-junior team of Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde completed the blanking with a 6-0, 6-1 dismantling at second doubles.

Next up, the Tigers will host a WPIAL quarterfinal match on Thursday against Peters Township. Match time is set for 3:30 PM in The Cage.
