Christina Shi Receives 2023 WPIAL James Collins Scholar Athlete Award

The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) revealed the recipients of the 32nd annual WPIAL/James Collins Scholar-Athlete Award on Wednesday. Among the 20 recipients (10 male and 10 female) is North Allegheny senior Christina Shi. The 20 candidates were selected out of a group of 120 nominees. Below is a brief overview of Shi’s career as provided by the WPIAL.

Christina Shi (North Allegheny) – 4.00 GPA … Four-year letterwinner in swimming & diving, serving as captain as a senior … One of 26 student-athletes to win four WPIAL gold medals in a single event, doing so in the 1-meter dive … One of 19 student-athletes to win at least three PIAA gold medals in a single event, winning the 1-meter dive as a sophomore, junior and senior … Three-time All-America selection and USA Diving Junior National Championships finalist … Named MaxPreps High School Athlete of the Week as a senior … Owns school records in the 6-dive and 11-dive formats for the 1-meter dive … Member of National Honor Society, Class Council, Student Council, Pittsburgh Chinese Association Youth Center, Pottery Club, Global Goals Club, and Yearbook … Volunteered with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and Kumon Center … Plans to pursue a degree in economics and statistics and compete in swimming & diving at Harvard University.
