Despite Riordan’s 6-Goal Night, Shaler Edges NA In Section Opener, 9-7

Posted on:

The North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Shaler on Wednesday night for the Section 2-AAA opener and dropped a narrow 9-7 decision. Tied 7-7 at the end of three quarters, sophomore Kori Wilson scored back-to-back goals just 17 seconds apart in the final stanza, allowing the host Titans to prevail. Wilson finished with five goals and an assist to lead the charge for Shaler.

For most of the night, the game was seesaw affair that included three lead changes in the third quarter alone. Individually, the contest turned into a scoring showcase between Wilson and North Allegheny’s Reagan Riordan. The NA sophomore powered the black-and-gold attack with a game-high six goal performance. Freshman attack Sarah Harlan chipped in with one goal for the Tigers.

Defensively, junior Madelyn Lemmon created a pair of turnovers and fellow junior Tessa McDowell also stood strong on the back end. Senior goalie Izzie Trunzo was her normal outstanding self, making 12 saves and adding two caused turnovers of her own.

With the loss, North Allegheny slips to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in Section 2-AAA. Shaler improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the section. The Tigers will seek their first win of the season at home on Tuesday night against Freeport at 8:00 p.m.
