After a 6-6 tie to end the first half, the Fox Chapel girls’ lacrosse team pulled away to top North Allegheny, 15-9, at Newman Stadium on Friday night.

The Tigers struck first with goals from sophomore Avery Anderson and senior Mila Prusak in the opening 90 seconds for a prompt 2-0 lead. Foxes freshman Ava Orie scored on a free position to cut the lead in half. Anderson scored her second of the game with less than 22 minutes remaining to give NA a 3-1 lead. Fox Chapel junior Madelyn Jones scored three minutes later to bring the score within one. North Allegheny’s passing in the offensive zone was on point early, and a tic-tac-toe sequence initiated by junior Isla Abrams led to Prusak’s second goal of the night on a cut towards the net for a 4-2 advantage. Jones netted her second of the game and senior Lindsay Scheffler tied the game at 4-4 up on a free position with 14 minutes left in the first frame. Tigers junior Vivienne Hood broke the tie on a free position, but the Foxes responded quickly with Scheffler’s second of the night and a tally from junior Sydney Schutzman. Prusak earned a hat trick on a late free position to tie the game at 6-6 at the half.

Fox Chapel dominated second half play, but North Allegheny had a chance to get back into the game late. An Abrams free position brought the score within one early in the second half, and two goals from freshman Keely McMahon-Regan kept the Tigers within two with less than six minutes left. The Foxes took control late as Schutzman tallied a six-goal performance.

Junior goalkeeper Izzie Trunzo had a busy but productive night with 14 saves. Prusak took home Wright Automotive Player of the Game laurels for her three goals and work in the draw control circle.

The Tigers fall to 2-2 in the section and 4-3 overall. NA is set to host Allderdice Monday evening at 5:00 p.m. You can listen to that game on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
