Matt Woffington Earns 150th Career Win, NA Tops Franklin Regional in WPIAL Quarterfinals

The North Allegheny boys’ tennis team opened their playoff run the same way they played most of the season, by winning in dominant fashion, 5-0.

On a warm, sun-soaked afternoon, the Tigers hosted Franklin Regional in a quarterfinal match. The brother-brother combination of senior Adithya Ramadas Guptha and sophomore Adhav Ramadas opened up the scoring by blanking their opponents at second doubles, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman sensation Advaita Sircar followed up quickly by dispatching his Panther adversary at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. As has happened so often this season, the clinching point came off of the racquet of veteran senior Trey Davidson as he silenced his opponent at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles, junior Sri Thirmumala and freshman Shivum Telang made it 4-0 by shutting out their fellow competitors, 6-0, 6-0. Completing the sweep for NA was senior Amit Bhandari who survived a slow start to rebound with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 win at third singles. The victory also marked the 150th career win for head coach Matt Woffington.

The team has advanced to the WPIAL Final Four and will face Fox Chapel in the semifinals on Monday at a site and time to be determined.
