NA Drops Section Contest To Hempfield
The North Allegheny softball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday evening by the Hempfield Spartans in a 13-0 defeat in five innings.
The visiting Spartans, the reigning WPIAL Class 6A champions, jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning that was keyed on a three-run homer by senior Emily Griffith. Hempfield tacked on two runs in the second inning and six more in the third inning to build a 13-0 lead.
The game was halted for 30 minutes because of a lightning delay prior to the top of the fifth, but when the game resumed Hempfield junior pitcher Riley Miller completed a five-inning no-hitter and the Spartans won their sixth game in seven outings this season.
North Allegheny slips to 3-2 overall and in Section 1-6A, while Hempfield improves to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the section. The Tigers look to bounce back on Thursday with a visit to Canon-McMillan.
