Shannon Von Kaenel’s goal with 5:46 remaining propelled Quaker Valley to a narrow 6-5 win over North Allegheny on Thursday night in non-section play. Von Kaenel, who finished the night with two goals, netted her 100th career goal in the contest.

The game-winning tally by Von Kaenel spoiled a valiant comeback by the Tigers, who fell behind 4-0 in the first half. Unfazed by the early deficit, North Allegheny fought back with a goal by senior Charlotte Schreiber, and back-to-back markers from senior Leigh Failla to trim the score to 4-3 with four minutes left before halftime. Quaker Valley took a two-goal lead into the locker room when Lucy Roig scored the second of her two goals on the night with 18 seconds left in the half.

In what was a more defensive-minded second half, the Tigers clawed back with back-to-back goals from sophomore Avery Anderson and senior Delaney Kennedy, the second of which coming with 12:27 left in regulation, to knot the score at 5-5. Junior goalie Izzie Trunzo put together a terrific performance in net with 12 saves, 10 in the second half alone. Unfortunately for NA, the night belonged to Von Kaenel and Quaker Valley as her tally with 5:46 to play resulted in a 6-5 win for QV.

North Allegheny now sits at 6-7 on the season following the loss. The Tigers return to action on Friday night for a non-section tune-up against Hempfield. The contest will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
