
NA Edges Forbes Road, 2-1
In a hard-fought non-section contest at Hempfield High School, the North Allegheny field hockey team prevailed over Forbes Road on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
Forbes Road made the trip from central Pennsylvania and engaged in a physical, low-scoring contest with North Allegheny. The Tigers took the game’s early lead thanks to a goal by sophomore Marissa Hess, assisted by Laura Schwendeman. However, Forbes Road managed to tie the game at 1-1 on a goal by Payton Kendall with 11:26 remaining in the half.
The game stayed tied until the waning minutes of the contest when sophomore Maggie Laughrey put a shot on net that was saved by the Forbes Road keeper and junior Hailey Wachowiak drove home the rebound to give North Allegheny the lead with just 2:42 remaining. The Wachowiak goal proved to be the game winner in an exciting 2-1 victory.
Senior goalie Kali Kugler got the start in net and made five saves to earn the victory. NA outshot Forbes Road, 12-6.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 2-1 overall on the season. The Lady Tigers host Norwin on Wednesday night in a game that can be heard live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
