NA Falls At Hempfield in Season Opener

Posted on:

The North Allegheny Tigers lost their first game of the season to the Hempfield Spartans, last year’s Class 6A PIAA runner-up, by a final score of 6-0 on Monday afternoon.

While a solo home run in the bottom of the first gave Hempfield an early lead, the Spartans extended the advantage in the third when they strung together three hits and capitalized on two errors, scoring four additional runs. The Spartans scored their final run in the fifth. The Tigers’ offense tried to answer back, but tallied only five hits throughout the contest against Hempfield starting pitcher Riley Miller.

Senior Carlyn Vaupel went 2-for-3, while junior Sammy Plotsko and seniors Julia Drazga and Kaci Plotsko earned one hit apiece. Sammy Plotsko pitched six innings for the Tigers, allowing six hits and striking out four.

The Tigers resume section play next week when they host Baldwin on April 3 at 6:15 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
