North Allegheny lost in section play to Seneca Valley on Friday afternoon by a final score of 9-6. Seneca Valley jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a defensive error, three hits, and a sacrifice fly. They added a sixth run to their lead in the third inning with two extra-base hits.

The Tigers fought back in the fourth inning when junior Sammy Plotsko led off with a single to center field. With two outs and runners at second and third, freshman Erin Fadgen singled, scoring one. However, the Raiders’ offense answered back, scoring two additional runs in the bottom of the inning. Play resumed in the fifth inning with a score of 8-1 in favor of Seneca Valley.

In the top of the fifth with two outs, senior Carlyn Vaupel drew a walk and then reached second on a single by Plotsko. Then senior Anne Melle doubled, scoring Vaupel and reducing the Raiders’ lead to 8-3. However, in the bottom of the inning, Seneca Valley scored a single run, improving their lead to 9-3.

A scoreless sixth inning for both squads left the Tigers with one more at-bat in the seventh. Vaupel sparked the Tigers’ offense with a solo homerun. Then Plotsko drew a walk, bringing up freshman pinch hitter, Taylor Condiotte, who homered on a 3-2 count, clearing the center field fence. However, the Raiders stopped the Tigers’ offense, ending the game with a final score of 9-6.

Plotsko started in the circle, pitching three innings and striking out two. Melle came in for relief in the fourth, throwing three innings and striking out four.

The Tigers will host Pine-Richland on Monday for their next section contest. It is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.
