NA Falls To Seneca Valley In Section Contest

The North Allegheny softball team fell to the Seneca Valley Raiders on Friday night, 10-0, in six innings in a Section 1-6A contest.

The game started out as a pitcher’s duel between North Allegheny junior Sammy Plotsko and Seneca Valley junior Lexie Hames, a Clemson University commit. Scoreless through three innings, the Raiders broke through in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run double by Kylie Staudt for a 2-0 lead.

Staudt struck again in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run single, increasing the Seneca Valley lead to 4-0. The Staudt base hit sparked a six-run inning that gave the Raiders firm control of the contest. Abby Kalkowski scored on a wild pitch and Staudt raced home on an error for a 6-0 lead. A two-run single by senior Kara Pasquale capped the run scoring in the inning with the Raiders in front, 8-0.

In the top of the sixth, an RBI groundout by Staudt and an infield RBI single courtesy of Addie Winkle gave Seneca Valley a 10-0 lead and invoked the 10-run rule. Staudt went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and a run scored and Pasquale was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI’s.

Hames pitched four perfect innings and at one point struck out nine consecutive batters to earn the victory for Seneca Valley. Abby Kalkowski delivered two scoreless innings of relief. For NA, Plotsko took the loss and surrendered eight runs (four earned) in 4.2 innings with six strikeouts. Senior Anne Melle worked 1.1. innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Senior centerfielder Carlyn Vaupel had one of NA’s two hits on the night and was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny falls to 4-3 overall and in the section. Seneca Valley improves to 11-0 overall and 8-0 in Section 1-6A. The Tigers will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
