NA Falls To USC In Season Opener

The North Allegheny girls lacrosse team opened the 2024 campaign at Newman Stadium Friday night, but fell to Upper St. Clair 19-4 in the contest.

The Panthers opened up the scoring early, netting six goals in the opening quarter. USC junior Anna Capobres scored a hat trick in the opening frame, part of a five-goal performance from the Pitt commit. Upper St. Clair took a 7-0 lead before North Allegheny scored their first goal of the contest courtesy of junior Avery Anderson. USC kept the offense pace and held an 11-1 lead at the half.

North Allegheny added goals from senior Isla Abrams via a free position in the third period while adding markers from freshman midfielder Briana Elias and junior attack Sara Donaldson in the fourth quarter. Donaldson earned Wright Automotive Player of the Game laurels for her free position score.

USC had two goals from seniors Kat Mammarella and Calla Dressler, junior Mea Musillo, and freshmen Sydney Schalk and Riley Powell.

NA freshman goalkeeper Ruby Rosenberg played her first varsity game in net for the Tigers and had nine saves in the contest, spot starting for senior Izzie Trunzo.

North Allegheny falls to 0-1 in the young season and is back in action Monday at Newman Stadium for a 7:30 matchup with Oakland Catholic. You can listen to that game live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
