NA punishes Peters Township; finishes regular season undefeated

The North Allegheny boys’ tennis team played their final regular season match on the road at Peters Township on Friday. In their final tune-up before the playoffs begin, the Tigers dominated the Indians, 5-0 to remain unbeaten. It is the third time in the past four years that NA has finished the regular season undefeated.

Senior captain Evan Kaufman once again got NA on the board with a 6-0, 6-1 shellacking at third singles. Junior captain Advaita Sircar dropped a game early then rallied to win 10 straight to balloon the lead to two, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Ashwin Sudhakar got the clinching point of the match by taking down his foe, 6-2, 6-2 to earn him Man of the Match honors.

The attention turned to doubles to see if a sweep was in order. Juniors Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde left little doubt as to the outcome of second doubles by vanquishing their opponents, 6-2, 6-1. Finally, at first doubles, seniors Adhav Ramadas and Matthew Kampi played with their food a little before dialing up the heat to complete the sweep, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-1.

Next up, the Tigers will return to the playoffs looking to make an extended run. They are the WPIAL’s number one overall seed, will face off against the winner of Latrobe and Woodland Hills. Match time is slated for 3:30 PM on Tuesday in “The Cage”.
