NA Races To Sweep Over Upper St. Clair

WEXFORD, Pa. — The North Allegheny Swimming & Diving Teams swept Upper St. Clair Tuesday evening at North Allegheny Senior High School. The girls’ won by a score of 96-85 while the boys’ won by a score of 99-81.

The diving teams continued their domination and sent the swimmers into the meet with a solid lead after sweeping both the girls and boys 1-meter diving.

Christina Shi took home the gold with a new season-best score of 285.85. Lola Malarky (243.95) and Maddie Whitewolf (214.20) finished second and third, respectfully. Eva Betz finished all six rounds with a final score of 196.60 for the Lady Tigers.

On the boys’ side, Will Schenk remained undefeated as he won with a score of 276.30. Alex Palermo (137.20) and Andrew Wasco (84.95) rounded out the top three for the Tigers.

North Allegheny’s female relay squad composed of Natalie Sens, Ava Sharar, Brooke Glinski, and Isabella Dietz won the 200-yard medley relay. Dietz’s split of 24.22 in the anchoring leg led the Tigers to out touch USC.

Dietz’s two impressive relay swims and winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.75, which rose her to the top as she earned Wright Automotive Female Swimmer of the Meet from the North Allegheny Sports Network.

The winner of the men’s 100-yard freestyle, Ben Gavran (48.37), also rose to the intense atmosphere of the night’s battle and had two impressive relay splits and a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.15) earning him Wright Automotive Male Swimmer of the Meet.

Lexi Sundgren claimed top points in the 200-yard freestyle once more, clocking in a time of 1:50.57. Sundgren also claimed the 500-yard freestyle with her time of 5:00.12.

Freshman Julianne Weaver stood out for the Lady Tigers as she was NA’s top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle. She placed second with her time of 26.13.

Greta Mott (58.70) and Vivien Li (59.64) finished first and second in the 100-yard backstroke to conclude the women’s top finishes of the night.

The boys started the evening out strong by sweeping the 200-yard individual medley. William Gao (1:59.54) touched first, then Jacob Yarosz (2:01.53), and rounded out by Gus Miller (2:04.08). Additionally, Gao finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.16.

Zachary Jubeck finished the night with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.85) and third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (52.36) to help score points for the Tigers.

Eliot Maravich won the 500-yard freestyle by almost three seconds with his time of 4:46.96. Josh Berty (4:51.90) and Ethan Berty (4:53.86) finished in third and fourth for NA in a very tight race.

NA will return to action on January 8 as they travel to Bucknell University to race in the Bucknell Invitational. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:30 A.M.
